Latest MH370 theory

Passengers on flight MH370 died of oxygen starvation hours before the pilot performed a controlled ditching in the Indian Ocean, according to a new study into the disaster.

Analysis by a veteran air accident investigator suggests all 239 people lost consciousness up to four hours before the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 disappeared beneath the waves.

The most likely scenario is that pilot Zaharie Ahmad Shah deliberately depressurised the cabin, thereby depriving those on board of air, the research concludes.

Although oxygen masks would have dropped down automatically from above the seats, their supply was limited to just 20 minutes.

This theory fits in with the suggestion that the jet flew above 40,000 feet. The pilot could have done this to ensure everyone was dead.

Quote
The Malaysian plane was lost on 8 March as it flew from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, carrying 239 people.

Its disappearance has become one the biggest mysteries in aviation history.

The best information investigators have for its whereabouts come for a series of brief satellite communications with the jet during its flight.

The last of these connections suggests MH370 crashed into the water inside the "high priority" search zone now being surveyed by the Dutch and Chinese vessels.

MH370 was 'shot down by the US military', former airline CEO claims

A French former airline director has claimed that the US military may have shot down Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 and covered it up.

Marc Dugain, who headed Proteus Airlines and is an established author, speculated that the Americans may have targeted the aircraft because they feared a September 11-style attack on a military base in the Indian Ocean.

In an article for French magazine Paris Match, he claimed that the Boeing 777 crashed nowhere near where international search teams have been combing the ocean for wreckage, but near an American military base in the British territory of Diego Garcia.

Many conspiracy theories about Diego Garcia have been aired since the disappearance of MH370 but the US government has repeatedly denied that the plane came anywhere near it.

Mr Dugain argued that the MH370 may have been remotely hijacked by hackers and steered towards Diego Garcia, which is far from its planned flight path from  Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Flight MH370: pilot 'carried out final fly-past of Penang'

2 March

A British pilot's theory that flight MH370 performed a final "fly-past" of Penang island before intentionally landing in the sea has been described as "credible" by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

Captain Simon Hardy, a senior Boeing 777 captain with a major commercial airline, spent six months analysing Inmarsat's satellite communication "handshake" arcs and using mathematical "reverse engineering" to arrive at his conclusion.

He believes that the missing Malaysia Airlines plane was intentionally landed on the water and sank intact about 100 nautical miles away from where ATSB is currently conducting its search, and outside of the core target area being trawled.

Residents of Kuda Huvadhoo, in Dhaalu Atol have urged investigators searching for the doomed airplane to visit their remote homeland, which they say holds the key to modern aviation's most confounding mystery.

Islanders claim they were disturbed by an incredibly loud noise and witnessed a "low-flying jumbo jet" matching the description of the doomed Boeing 777 in the hours after flight MH370 mysteriously disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8 last year.

An interesting documentary on the Yesterday channel at the moment, which investigates various scenarios. Several theories were ruled out, but the most likely scenario seems to be deliberate action on the part of the Captain. Following the last communication with Kuala Lumpur, the Captain most likely asked the co-pilot to get a coffee. He then locked him out of the cockpit and turned off the Acars and transponder. He then made two distinct turns west and south. The oxygen supply would have been disabled, so that all passengers and crew became unconscious and finally died. The aircraft was set on autopilot and followed a southerly course for the next 7 hours. This is when it finally ran out of fuel and plunged into the sea.

The Malaysian government has approved a new attempt to find the wreckage of flight MH370 - nearly four years after the plane disappeared.

In one of the biggest mysteries in modern aviation, the Boeing 777 vanished over the southern Indian Ocean on 8 March 2014 with 239 people on board.

The bulk of the Malaysia Airlines aircraft has never been found, and in January 2017, the search was discontinued .

Debris found in the Indian Ocean has been identified as coming from the missing aircraft, but nothing larger than an outboard wing flap has been discovered.

Now a US-based company called Ocean Infinity will continue the search on a "no find, no fee" basis, sailing from Durban in South Africa.

A London-based hedge fund millionaire is helping to finance the "final" search for the missing Malaysia Airlines aircraft which disappeared nearly four years‎ ago, in a bid to solve one of modern aviation's greatest mysteries.

Sky News has learnt that Anthony Clake, an executive at Marshall Wace Asset Management, is the key figure behind Ocean Infinity, the subsea exploration company which won the contract to hunt for the whereabouts of Flight MH370.

‎Mr Clake, who ‎oversees billions of pounds of clients' money at Marshall Wace, is understood to have invested in Ocean Infinity after being impressed by its advanced technology.

Prog was interesting for focussing on the key players at the time, including the Prime Minister.  With virtually no confirmed information they were really stymied. Nothing more known now 4 years on. Terrible for the families of course.

MH370: Malaysia Airlines' captain deliberately crashed plane in murder-suicide, investigators conclude

Leading air safety experts have concluded that the captain of flight MH370 deliberately crashed the plane. They include the man who spent two years heading the search, who now says Captain Zaharie Amad Shah carefully planned a murder-suicide mission.

Did anyone watch the latest Channel 5 documentary about MH370?
Some more facts emerged which has convinced me that this was a thoroughly well planned suicide mission by the captain, to disguise the eventual crash location.
After radio contact was lost, it is likely that he depressurized the cabin to render everyone unconscious and then flew along a dividing line between air control areas.
He had built a simulator at his home and deleted data was found to contain a practice route which contained waypoints to the west of the Malay Peninsular and crucially, in the Southern Ocean west of Australia.
These were his autopilot waypoints, with his calculation of how far the aircraft could fly on autopilot, before running out of fuel.
There you are, all sorted.

I didn't see the programme so probably shouldn't comment.  ;)
But... Can a pilot depressurise the cabin while in flight? What about the co-pilot/navigator??

The cockpit does have a pressurized control normally set at auto, but can be changed to manual by the pilot. Alternatively, the pilot could increase altitude to 45000 feet to create the same effect. The passengers would have only 15 minutes of oxygen supply, whereas the pilot would have several hours.
As for the second officer, we will never know. Perhaps he was locked out of the cockpit, or the pilot incapacitated him in some way.

We watched the program and would agree it looks as if the Captain was on a pre-planned suicide mission.
