Kef fire risk 05/06/23: Low

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.8840 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1018 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1312 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9076 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Couple of motorcycle accidents earlier today. First in Travliata when a car pulled away from the kerbside into the path of a motorbike, second accidnt in Karavomylos at the Melissani junction involving a car and moped-type two wheeler. No serious injuries in either accident.

Doesn’t Greece have rich people?

Greece has extremely few rich people – if the official declarations of income and property are anything to go by.

The numbers from the tax declarations highlight several Greek “peculiarities”: On paper, Greece has hardly got any rich individuals. Only 27,000 taxpayers declare an individual income of more than 100,000 euros, while four out of 10 appear to live on €5,000 a year.

Sweden officially declared sex as a sport and is all set to host its first-ever sex competition next week. The people participating in the sex competition will engage in sex sessions which can go up to six hours daily. The winners of the sex competition will be decided by a panel of judges and the audience will also influence the final decisions.

The European Sex Championship which will start on 8 June and span over a period of six weeks with participants engaging in sexual activities from 45 minutes to 1 hour daily, depending upon the duration of their matches.

Social media is filled with diverse reactions from users over the announcement of sex competition with people supporting the move to remove the inhibitions related to sex while others have expressed skepticism.

According to the GCT report it'll be shown live on TV. Not the BBC, I'd think.

Hm, word has it that the Municipality of Argostoli hasn't auctioned off the concession for sunbeds and beach bar on Makrys Yialos beach (or Platys Yialos?) despite the tender last year bringing in more revenue than all other beaches in the municipality.

Seems Platis Yialos beach isn't owned by the Municipality of Argostoli but by the Hellenic Public Real Estate Company (ΕΤΑΔ) and is 'rented' on long term lease to the Municipality.

 :dunno:

Want proof Britain is broken? Just try leaving it
I thought the holiday from Hell was over, only to return to bureaucracy at its absolute worst

I have just had one of the worst weeks of my life, all because I made the stupid mistake of going on holiday. This was compounded by the even bigger error of coming back home.

Quite amusing - as it happened to someone else.

Seems the (not working) traffic lights at Mýlos Petría, t'other end of de Bosset bridge, and street lights at Koutavos and Krania, are responsibility of the Regional Council, not the Municipality of Argostoli.
