State pension age hits 66 and set to rise further

The age at which most people start to receive the state pension has now officially hit 66 after steady rises in the qualifying age in recent years.

Men and women born between 6 October, 1954, and 5 April, 1960, will start receiving their pension on their 66th birthday.

For those born after that, there will be a phased increase in state pension age to 67, and eventually 68.

The full state pension for new recipients is worth £175.20 a week.

To receive the full amount, various criteria including 35 qualifying years of national insurance must be satisfied.

Saw this discussed on the BBC earlier, along with the nonsense perpetuation "...people will have to work longer..." spouted by one of the presenters

(putting aside the issue for Boomer women who've suffered the very sudden and unfair changes to their qualifying retirement age!)

Figures from UK Gov:
In 1950 30% of 15 year old, 14% of 16 year old and 7% of 17 year old were in full-time education in England and Wales.
In 2010 88% of 16 year old, 76% of 17 year old were in full-time education in England and Wales.

ergo;
in 1950, 70% of 15yr old, 86% of 16yr old and 93% of 17yr old were potentially working
in 2010,   0% of 15yr old, 12% of 16yr old and 24% of 17yr old were potentially working

So today's youngster's don't have to work more years, instead their Working Life begins at a later age

"...retire later in life..." - True
"...have to work longer..." - False

sorry, just one of my bete noire's

Feeling a bit Bete Noire myself.
As a "Boomer" woman I have now been working and paying tax etc for 49 years. Will I get extra in my pension when I finally get it after working an extra 15 years - NO!!!!
Oh well, at least I've been working from home most of this year and not going through the hell that is the London tube system, and we have a new, yes new this month, Greek cafe/takeaway in the area. Goodbye Marina the Greek cafe hello Pitta Story.
