Greek bull figurine unearthed after heavy downpour

A bronze figurine of a bull believed to be at least 2,500 years old has been unearthed in Greece following heavy rain near the ancient site of Olympia.

Burn marks on the statuette suggest it may have been one of thousands of offerings to the Greek god Zeus.

The discovery of the small, intact item was made by archaeologists near a temple, Greece's culture ministry said.

An archaeologist spotted one of the bull's horns sticking out of the mud after a downpour, it added.

Initial testing has indicated that the bull idol, which was found last month, dates from the Geometric period - about 1050BC to 700BC - of Greek art, the culture ministry said in a statement on Friday.

Greece: Free individual rapid test for everyone – Massive home testing to control the pandemic
Everyone will be able to get up to four a month for free, one for each week

As it was announced, every citizen will be able to get the tests from the pharmacies with his Social Security number (AMKA).

Millions of these tests will be available in pharmacies by the end of the month.

These tests are different from the rapid ones performed so far and everyone will be able to do them alone, at home, testing themselves while they will not be registered in any database, as is done now with rapid and the molecular tests.

Covid: Summer holidays abroad 'unlikely', warns government adviser

Summer holidays overseas are "extremely unlikely" because of the risk of travellers bringing coronavirus variants back to the UK, a scientist on a government advisory body has said.

The UK faces a "real risk" if people travel abroad, Dr Mike Tildesley said.

Foreign holidays are currently not allowed and returning travellers have to quarantine.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said it was "too early to tell" when holidays abroad would be allowed.

Wish they'd make their minds up, or at least be consistent.
What's the point of everyone in the UK getting vaccinated?
This statement suggests the level of protection afforded, either to infection or transmission, is far far less than communicated thus far.

Blimey, how lucky was I, and what a difference a week makes.
Two passenger returns, all the trimmings, less than £400 last Mon

Strangely, when I booked there were two flights. An 06:00 and an 07:30.
Got all that nonsense "only 3 seats left", yet when I was presented with "what seat do you want?" I had the choice of the whole plane
Later that same day my booking got switched from the early flight to the later one.
Perhaps that later flight, the one I'm now on, had those higher prices all along?

The flight prices are a bit odd, last year we paid £500 for a couple from Manchester to Kef in September, we swapped the flight to this September, so same price, the flights then went up to £850 per couple, they have now dropped to £650 per couple, the plane is less than a quarter full, of course you now get ripped off with luggage, it will be an interesting year, we will be watching Kalamata flights as we go there May/June. its a fingers crossed!
