Greece to offer exclusive Acropolis visits outside of regular hours -- for a steep price
Fancy seeing the ancient Acropolis uncluttered by thousands of selfie-snappers? A solution is in the works, but it will set you back up to 5,000 euros ($5,500).
Starting April 1 2024, Greece plans to offer exclusive guided tours of its most powerful tourist magnet to handfuls of well-heeled visitors outside normal opening hours.
An official at Greece's Culture Ministry said Friday that the new Acropolis service will apply to a maximum four groups of up to five people each. It will cost 5,000 euros ($5,500) per group, although individuals prepared to cover the full group fee are welcome to visit on their own.

Neil the seal becomes viral sensation leaving marine experts concerned for his welfare
A seal called Neil has made quite the splash on the Australian island of Tasmania, where he has garnered quite the fan base on land and online.
The southern elephant seal has become a social media star for his antics as he seems to prefer life on the streets to his natural home, but that has prompted marine experts to be concerned about his welfare.
Neil has become a familiar sight for islanders, and he is often spotted lounging around town.
He has also had the odd run-in with local police officers, who have tried to cordon him off with traffic cones.

Risk of penile fractures rises at Christmas, doctors find
Researchers suspect euphoria and intimacy of season may be behind spike in cases
It may be the season of loving and giving, but doctors have warned against embracing this spirit too enthusiastically – at least where sexual relations are concerned. They have discovered that the Christmas period is associated with a significantly increased risk of penile fractures – a medical emergency in which the erection-producing regions of the penis snap, usually as a result of forceful bending during over-enthusiastic sexual intercourse.
“This injury tends to occur during wild sex – particularly in positions where you’re not in direct eye contact [with your partner], such as the reverse cowgirl,” said Dr Nikolaos Pyrgides, a urologist at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, who led the research.
The fractures are often heralded by an audible crack, followed by severe pain, rapid loss of erection and severe swelling and bruising. “When [patients] present to their doctor their penis often looks like an eggplant,” Pyrgides said.

Just done my Christmas good deed for today.
Earlier at the Tesco check out I was behind an old lady in the queue. Her bill came to £56.83 but when she counted out all her change she only had just under £50. I thought she was probably someone’s Nan and I’d like to think someone would have helped my Nan out in that situation. She didn’t want me to help her but I insisted, and in no time we had all her shopping back on the shelves.……Merry Christmas all!
