Rain, high winds wreak havoc on Ionian islandsTorrential rain and strong winds in western Greece on Friday caused widespread damage to the electricity and road networks of the islands of Cephalonia and Ithaca, while also flooding a cemetery in Corfu.Power was restored around 7 p.m. in Cephalonia and Ithaca, where the task of assessing the damage from floods to homes, stores and other infrastructure has started.
Well, would you believe this. Whilst all this was going on during the day I noticed at the top of St Georges Castle people standing under the flag having their photo taken, in the rain with lightning in the background. Brains, I don't know where some people keep them.
All the water and rocks that washed through the church of Agia Barbara continued down the ravine picking up more rocks and rubbish on its way. When it met the 200 year old walls of the British Cemetery at Drapano it broke down a 30 metre section and washed through the right hand side of the cemetery leaving tons of rock, mud and rubish all over the ground. It then broke down another section of the wall and washed through the neighbours garden. Cemetery now closed until further notice.
