Title: 08/05/15
Post by: Maik on Friday, 08 May, 2015 @ 01:06:29
Skala petrol station ran out of petrol yesterday evening. Don't think it's anything to worry about, just been a bit busier than expected. Caused me a problem as I needed some to get home. "Take my car," said Maria, the owner. Can't see that happening at Tesco.

According to the helpful lady at KTEL in Argostoli, the 09:00 Skala-Argostoli service will commence this Monday, 11 May. Maybe. Not sure whereabouts in Skala it will start from as work on cobbling part of the road along the square isn't completed yet and vehicles parked abandoned on the main street could make it difficult to get a bus up there.

Edit: more petrol due to arrive at Skala petrol station overnight, supplies should be OK today (Friday).

For all we sometimes say about them Greeks can really turn up trumps when you're stuck  :btu:

How does any traffic get through anyway??!    (BTW are you back in work?)

Yes. But a mere twelve hours today at the fun factory  :)

As for the traffic getting through the main street... slowly. And it's only the first week in May. Going to be interesting to see how things work out when they start barricading the street at midday, as is widely said to be the plan.

US encourages Greece to stick to non-Russia pipeline project

The United States is encouraging Greece to move forward with a pipeline bringing natural gas from Azerbaijan to Europe via Greece, rather than setting its hopes on a different project that would pipe Russian gas through Turkey.

Cash lottery for card users on 22 islands

The government is planning to offer a cash return incentive for Greeks who as of July 1 use debit or credit cards on certain islands for purchases above a threshold of 50 or 70 euros.

The measure will not concern foreign tourists at this stage.

I'm thinking it's the cash lottery that won't apply to foreign tourists, not the use of cards for payments above 50 or 70€.

Glad to hear you're not slacking, Maik!!   Gainfully employed gathering material for the thread about funny thing customers say.  ;)

Good to know that local businesses are kept fully informed of the plans for the village.   :oki:

You know how it works, Tony. Those who live in Skala and make loads of money get to hear, then it slowly filters down to other businesses. Wage slaves... why do we need to know what the plan is? Blimey, we opened and we didn't even have car prices until sometime the second day. They changed twice this morning (and No, they didn't go down).
