Watford boss Marco Silva: Greece sack culture worse than Premier League

Watford boss Marco Silva says the sack culture now engulfing the Premier League is nothing like what he's seen in Greece.

Silva, who only lasted one year at Olympiakos before quitting for personal reasons, believes it is far less stressful managing in England.

Marco Silva's been with Watford (currently 4th in the Premier League) for 106 days, having resigned from Hull City where he managed for 140 days until they were relegated to the Championship. Prior to that he'd managed Olympiakos for just short of a year before resigning for personal reasons despite having an impressive 79% win rate. Victor Sanchez took over as manager from Silva. Sanchez was replaced after just two matches. His replacement, Paulo Bento, was dismissed after seven months during which time the team won 19 out of 23 league matches and were leading the table by seven points.

Of the 92 clubs in the Premier League and English Football League only fifteen current managers have made it to 1,000 days:

Arsenal get gold for loyalty and Arsene Wenger gets a gold watch for long service - but 10th in the Premier League isn't good enough for all Arsenal fans and some are gunning for him. Eddie Howe at Bournemouth and Keith Hill at Rochdale are perhaps looking unlikely to surpass Wenger as longest serving surviving manager. There's a near ten year gap between Wenger and second longest serving but Paul Tisdale, 44 year old manager of Exeter City, could be in with a chance of being with the club for over 21 years, if he's not poached by a bigger outfit. Exeter are currently top of League 2 and he's just been named as Sky Bet League Two Manager of the Month for August.

At the lower end of the 1,000 day club, Pochettino at Spurs and Coleman at Accrington Stanley look pretty secure but Keith Curle's days at Carlisle could be numbered after Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Accrington left CUFC supporters calling for his departure.
