Yay!!! Excellent news.

More for the whining, whinging, grey faced, always angry gurners to moan about.

If this weather is down to global warming, might be time to reconsider whether limiting fossil fuel use, and diesel vehicles, should be reversed.

Met Office warns thunderstorms 'could cause danger to life' as heatwave causes travel chaos

Torrential downpours are possible, with as much as 30mm of rainfall in one hour and 60mm in three hours, while large hail, frequent lightning and strong, gusty winds will be additional hazards, forecasters warned.

The hot weather and very high afternoon temperatures have led to an amber warning for thunderstorms valid from 2pm to 8pm in the East Midlands and east of England.

UK Heatwave: 'Sunburnt' seagulls taken to rescue centre

Dozens of young gulls have had to be treated for burnt feet because of the heatwave, a wildlife centre said.

The charity said it had been inundated with juvenile gulls - nesting on industrial buildings - that fell off after the roofs became "scalding hot".

A spokeswoman for the centre said the young birds had been placed in buckets of water to "cool their feet down".

Over the weekend the seagulls have been kitted out with wellies, macs and Sou'westers.

UK weather: Hosepipe ban called off due to recent rainfall despite predicted heatwave this weekend

United Utilities has called off its hosepipe ban for millions of customers in the north west of England because “recent rainfall has gone some way to helping with water supplies.”

The ban, which was due to begin on 5 August, has been called off despite despite predictions of a second heatwave.

The mercury could climb back up to 31C in London and the south east this weekend, the Met Office has said, with sunshine returning to most of the country.

UK weather forecast: Temperatures to drop 10C in 24 hours as thunderstorms herald end to heatwave

Thunderstorm warnings have been issued for southern England as the heatwave which parts of Britain have been basking in comes to an abrupt end.

Temperatures in excess of 30C recorded in London on Tuesday could plummet by 10 degrees within 24 hours, forecasters say.

Yellow weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office for London, the southeast and East Anglia on Tuesday afternoon, with a risk of storms and heavy rain.

Meteorologists have warned some areas could see large amounts of rainfall within a short space of time, prompting a risk of isolated flooding and travel disruption.

UK weather forecast: High temperatures to return in late August - after two weeks of rain and storms

The heatwave that has gripped Britain for months came to an abrupt end this week with a series of thunderstorms and downpours, but forecasters insist the summer heat will soon return.

The Met Office is predicting higher than average temperatures over the next three months, meaning Britain could be set for an Indian summer during late August, September and October.

The Met Office also warned against expecting too much when the heat does return.

“It is important to remember that higher than average temperatures do not necessarily mean a 'heatwave' and that it can still be warmer than average but cloudy and windy too.”

UK weather: Flood warnings issued by Met Office as heatwave comes to an end

After a summer of hosepipe bans and scorching temperatures in the UK, the Met Office has issued its latest weather warning – for floods.

The yellow alert was put in place on Sunday for between midday and 10pm with heavy rain, hail and thunder forecast to batter Wales and western regions.

A second warning has also been issued for Monday for the east of the country between 11am and 10pm.

Was lashing down here before, overflowing the gutters. Our Greek style former lawn now has some blades of grass coming through. I'm well known for hating rain as a result of four years in Bangor as a student, but not complaining now. At least we're high enough here not to get flooding but I guess others may well not be so lucky.

Rare flamingos lay eggs for first time in 15 years after UK heatwave

The heatwave that gripped the UK caused rare Andean flamingos at a wetlands reserve in Britain to lay eggs for the first time in 15 years.

According to British conservation charity the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust six of the exotic birds laid nine eggs.

Wildlife experts say the incredible feat was made possible because the sweltering heat mimicked the hot, humid conditions that the flamingos normally experience in their natural habitat.

Warm weather brings freshwater jellyfish to Shropshire canal
First UK sighting of tiny jellyfish species normally found in the Yangtze basin in China

First came the wasps, exotic sharks and marauding seagulls. Now the long hot summer has revealed another initially alarm-inducing animal in British waters – or more precisely, in the Middlewich branch of the Shropshire Union Canal.

Freshwater jellyfish more normally found in the Yangtze basin in China have been spotted swimming in the waters near Bridge 23 of the canal between Middlewich and Winsford, according to the Canal & River Trust.

The jellyfish, Craspedacusta sowerbii, is transparent, the size of a 10p coin, and completely harmless to humans. It has never been recorded before in the charity’s 2,000 miles of canals and rivers.

UK heatwave caused hundreds of extra deaths this summer, figures suggest
Total of 625 extra deaths recorded during two periods of higher-than-normal temperatures in spring and early summer

Hundreds of extra deaths were recorded in England as a result of a heatwave during spring and early summer, official statistics show.

In the last week of June, when temperatures rose above 30C, 382 more deaths occurred than the average.

During an earlier period of unseasonably warm spring temperatures in April, 243 more deaths were observed than the five-year average.

Experts said many of the deaths could have been prevented if the public had been made aware “about the increasing risks of heatwaves due to climate change”.

UK weather forecast: Storm Ali to bring winds up to 80mph as Storm Helene moves away from Britain
Alert warns of danger to life from flying debris

Storm Ali is set to bring gusts of up to 80mph across parts of the UK as the remnants of Storm Helene move on.

The Met Office has issued a warning for windy weather across Northern Ireland, Scotland, the north of England and Wales for Wednesday.

Forecasters cancelled a wind warning for Tuesday after gusts from Storm Helene failed to meet the threshold to merit a warning.

However, the alert for Wednesday warns of injuries and danger to life from flying debris and will remain in place from 6am to 10pm.

The Met Office also warned that damage to buildings, power cuts, road closures and transport cancellations are possible.

UK weather forecast: Temperatures set to plunge below zero as warmth gives way to frosty mornings

Frost and freezing temperatures are expected to hit parts of the UK as a spell of colder weather begins to take hold this week.

Northern parts of Britain are likely to see some crisp mornings as autumn starts to set in, while the mercury could drop below zero on Tuesday night into Wednesday in the Scottish Highlands.

It comes after Storm Callum pummelled the country over the weekend, causing severe flooding in Wales and leaving at least three people dead.

At the same time, southern parts of England enjoyed unseasonably warm conditions, which look set to continue in the south east on Tuesday, where some places could see highs of 23C - before potentially falling into single figures at the weekend.

Despite some reports to the contrary, the Met Office said it did not expect snow to fall in the UK during October.
