With just 7 days to go until Windows XP reaches end of support Microsoft have sensationally announced a new lease of life for the thirteen year old operating system.

A brief press release issued by Microsoft's new CEO reads:

Quote
We acknowledge that we don't always get it right. While Windows Vista and Windows 8 were technically superior to their predecessors they didn't capture the heart of businesses and the buying public in the way Windows XP did and, in many ways, Microsoft is a victim of its own success. Around the world some 25% of Windows PCs are still being powered by XP, proving what a great operating system we created all those years ago.

However, time and technology moves on. And so does Microsoft. Today we proudly announce Windows XP8, an operating system that combines the look, feel and familiarity of Windows XP with the security, stability and selections designed into Windows 8. We look forward to tomorrow confident in the knowledge we have the right product at the right price.

Chief Executive Officer

Due for release 08/04/14, when Windows XP support ends, pricing details are to be announced later today but informed sources say that, as a reward to loyal Windows users disappointed with later versions, this will be a rolling release with a low initial cost and a yearly subscription at similar price to that of an AV renewal.

To help spread the word of how good XP8 is, Microsoft are offering wide-awake Windows users the opportunity to download Windows XP8 for free until 12:00 today user's local time.
