Oscars: The Greek hero who saved 5,000 lives
Two Greeks were among all the Hollywood stars on the Oscars ceremony night in Los Angeles, Sunday. University student Daphne Matziarakis was nominated for best short documentary for “4.1 miles”. Accompanying her was the protagonist of her movie, Greek coast guard officer Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

When oh When will it all stop I am speechless. No matter how many times you see it ,it makes your heart break. The people who go out to rescue these unfortunate people are more than heroes. Most of the Greek people on the islands have very little themselves but share so much!!!

Extraordinary documentary and extraordinary people. Shocked to see so many families with very young children. Nothing like the view given by some British newspapers. Found a link to the full documentary:

Just checked and found that Daphne and the hero Kyriakos didn't get the Oscar - it went to the "White Helmets" (Variety Oscar Winners 2017) (http://variety.com/2017/film/news/2017-oscars-winners-list-academy-awards-1201995364/). But great to be nominated.
