Ports ending up with more execs than staff

Many of the so-called regional ports “of international interest” actually are in need of specialized personnel. “What they certainly do not need is governing boards with so many members that match or even outnumber those of the Piraeus Port Authority board, and even of international giants such as the Hamburg Port Authority,” said one shipping source.

The port authority of Piraeus, Greece’s biggest port, now has nine board members and over 1,100 employees. The Corfu Port Authority and the Lavrio Port Authority, meanwhile, have the same number of executives even though they have a staff of just eight and seven people respectively.
