Title: Bonking banned
Post by: Maik on Sunday, 15 March, 2020 @ 04:57:36
Well, I expect you've read on GGi that malls, cafes, bars and restaurants (http://goinggreek.info/index.php?topic=5068.msg27281#msg27281) as well as nightclubs, theatres and cinemas (http://goinggreek.info/index.php?topic=5067.msg27277#msg27277) all have to close temporarily... well, to barbers and bookies add brothels (https://news.gtp.gr/2020/03/13/greece-shuts-restaurants-bars-malls-coronavirus-cases-rise/)

(Legal in Greece - well, they can be. Pretty exhaustive list of what's closed and what can be open in last link above.)

Having closed all the places where people gather, there is no word about church services being banned. It seems that in Greece, all those attending, are blessed by God and have no reason to worry about the virus.

Reminds me somewhat of the woman in America who recently crashed her car into oncoming traffic to test her faith in God. I'm guessing Pennsylvania police and the judge aren't Greek Orthodox: washingtonexaminer.com (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/woman-crashed-into-oncoming-car-to-test-her-faith-in-god-authorities-say)

just wondering if, when this has all blown over, the women will get back pay if laid off, rather than laid on?  :dunno:

Latest on the Greek Orthodox Church:

Quote
In another highly scrutinized move, Mitsotakis over the weekend spoke by phone with Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos, with press reports saying the Greek premier recommended that places of worship remain open only for individual worship and for sacraments - namely, funerals - to be conducted with a minimum of congregants.

An extraordinary Holy Synod session of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece will convene on Monday to decide on further preventative measures, as churches and chapels have remained opened and services conducted.

Holiday lets also hit as, earlier in the article, it states:

Quote
The government also announced that hotels and all types of holiday dwellings will also remain shut until the end of April, a particularly painful development for the domestic tourism industry, as Orthodox Easter this year falls on April 19.

Additionally, cruise ships have been banned from calling at Greek ports: ekathimerini.com (http://www.ekathimerini.com/250665/article/ekathimerini/news/further-restrictions-to-travel-cruise-ships-banned)
