The government has forwarded to the country’s creditors its new package of proposals for measures aimed at plugging the fiscal gap up to 2018... proposals include... the taxation of Internet use.

Not seen/heard anything to that effect (UK) but there is a working party looking at abolishing line rental where only internet is used.

Hadn't heard anything about taxing the internet here but now it's pretty much an essential utility it wouldn't take much for some bright spark to copy the idea.

Internet and pay-TV taxes shock market

The telecommunications market has been stunned by the agreement between the government and the country’s creditors about taxing the Internet and pay-TV. Market professionals note that the agreement for a 5 percent tax on every Internet connection and a 10 percent levy on every pay-TV subscription will both damage growth and be impossible to implement.
