UK weather forecast: Britain to be hotter than Barcelona as weekend heatwave sweeps in
Temperatures could reach 30C with soaring humidity

The start of June will bring a burst of scorching weather to Britain – hotter than Barcelona, Ibiza and St Tropez, forecasters predict.

Temperatures could reach up to 30C this weekend, the highest of the year so far, as humidity soars.

Bookmaker Coral has odds of 2-1 that this June will be the hottest since records began, amid growing concerns about climate change.

Met Office experts said sheltered central and southern areas could experience highs of 28C on Saturday 1 June, with potential thunderstorms over the weekend.

That would make the UK hotter than holiday hot spots in Spain, where highs of between 23C and 24C are expected.

Ugh, 30C is OK in Greece but hot, humid and 'orrible in the UK. Looks as though the start of June will be a very pleasant 22-24C on Kef.

Edit: According to ITV News the high temperatures are most likely in Norwich or north London... get the factor fifty ready, Misty ;)

Was on the south east coast yesterday visiting a relative when a monsoon like deluge came down. The High Street was a sea of DFL's ( down from Londoners) hiding under shop front awnings, luckily I was in the chippie waiting for me cod to be cooked when the worst of it came down.

UK weather: June expected to be wettest on record, as Met Office warn of potential floods

With British temperatures recently rivalling the Mediterranean, it may have seemed that summer had firmly arrived.

But June is now odds on to be the wettest on record, with yellow weather warnings issued for the coming week and the country set to be deluged by heavy rain.

England is expected to see four days of rain, as forecasters at the Met Office warn of potential floods across the south east.

Meteorologists claimed that 20 hours of continual downpours could be seen on Monday.

Probably - but it's mostly posting via a mobile which also seems to screw up the line spacing at the end.  :(

UK set to be wetter than Greece as rain soars in whilst the Ionian islands bask in extreme June sunshine.
If you're staying at home during the week ahead you will get worse weather than those jetting off on holiday.
Stavros Meteos, weather expert for Kefalonia said, "Whilst we may have some showers ahead, this is the place to be. Alternatively you can stay in the UK and we are sure that within the next 2 or 3 years, the tabloids with be able to run an article stating that for 90 minutes the UK will be hotter than here. Rather you than me."

More weather warnings have been put in place as thunderstorms, torrential rain and flooding are expected to batter parts of the UK again.

UK weather forecast: Heatwave to see temperatures hit 32C as Met Office issues warnings
Weather warnings for thunderstorms could see flash flooding and lightning before mercury soars

Britain is set to swelter next week as forecasters warned an imminent heatwave was set to see temperatures reach 32C.

Weather warnings for thunderstorms are in place for most of the UK from 3pm Sunday to midnight Monday, which could see flash flooding, lightning and strong winds.

But once these clear the mercury is expected to soar to highs of 31C or 32C from Tuesday and Wednesday.

UK weather forecast: Heatwave could see temperatures hit record this week, as health warnings issued
Public Health England issues heat warning as near-record temperatures predicted

Parts of Britain could be hotter than Rio de Janeiro next week as a potentially record-breaking heatwave sweeps across Europe, bringing temperatures up to 40C on the continent.

Temperatures up to 34C are possible on Friday and Saturday in central and southern England with a chance the heat could break June’s highest recorded temperature of 35.6C, forecasters said.

However, up to a month’s worth of rain has been predicted to hit parts of the country early in the week before the sunshine arrives, with thunderstorm warnings for much of the UK on Monday.

The hot weather is expected to easily pass the Met Office's heatwave threshold and “heat health” warnings have been issued by Public Health England for the unusually warm weather.

Young children, people with serious heart or breathing problems, and the over-75s are considered most at risk from the high temperatures.

Public Health England has recommended shading or covering windows exposed to direct sunlight and turning off lights or electrical items that are not in use to stay as cool as possible.

Unfortunately, the warm weather won’t be experienced by the whole country as parts of northeast England and the east coast, such as Scarborough and Skegness, could see cooler than average temperatures, with highs of just 15C expected on Thursday.

Met Office meteorologist Martin Bowles also warned the heatwave could be shortlived as forecasters are not yet predicting a prolonged hot summer like in 2018.

UK weather: Warning of a month's worth of rainfall - before temperatures expected to soar

Thunderstorms could bring a month's worth of rain to parts of the UK, before the hottest temperatures of the year so far bring a balmy end to June.

Some parts of Scotland could see 80mm of rain in 18 hours on Monday and the Met Office has issued weather warnings amid fears of flooding and travel disruption.

Meanwhile, central and eastern spots in England may get more than half a month's rainfall in just an hour, the forecaster said.
