Greece added to Scotland quarantine list while Zante to Cardiff flight travellers must self-isolate

Travellers from Greece will be required to self-isolate at home for 14 days on arrival into Scotland as of Thursday morning, the Scottish government has said.

In Wales, meanwhile, passengers from Zante are being asked to self-isolate following a flight last week from which several people tested positive for coronavirus.

I wondered if holiday companies might do that rather than pull out of countries wholesale. However, according to that BBC link,

"Wales' Health Minister Vaughan Gething... called on the UK government to agree to meeting the devolved nations on Wednesday to urgently discuss removing Greece from the nations' quarantine exemptions lists. The meeting usually goes ahead on Thursdays."

So England might follow Scotland and remove Greece from the 'green list'. Even though:

"When a country surpasses 20 cases per 100,000 people in the past week, the UK government normally imposes 14 days of self-isolation on returning travellers. There were 14.0 coronavirus cases per 100,000 people in Greece in the seven days to 31 August, down from 14.9 a week earlier."

The Balearics vs Catalan restrictions suggest the Home Office (more likely Border Force) have no appetite for defining specific areas within a country

Little being discussed about how those returning Welsh passengers became infected.
No doubt it happened whilst in Zakynthos, unless they were all on a long weekend break.

Greece

Summary

Updated:    7 September 2020
Latest update:    Addition of information on entry requirements and passport validity from January 2021 (see ‘Entry requirements’ page)

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development office (FCDO) advise against all but essential travel to the islands of Lesvos, Tinos, Serifos, Mykonos, Crete, Santorini and Zakynthos. This is based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks. The rest of Greece remains exempt from the FCDO’s advice against all non-essential international travel.

The FCDO is not advising those already travelling in Lesvos, Tinos, Serifos, Mykonos, Crete, Santorini and Zakynthos to leave at this time. You should follow the advice of the local authorities on how best to protect yourself and others, including any measures that they bring in to control the virus. Contact your travel operator if you have any questions about your return journey.

If you are returning to the UK from Lesvos, Tinos, Serifos, Mykonos, Crete, Santorini and Zakynthos on or after 8 September, you may need to self-isolate on your return. Check the latest guidance for England and Northern Ireland.
