Greece Allocates €30m to Offer ‘Tourism for All’ Greeks

Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis on Sunday officially announced the renewed “Tourism for All” social tourism program, which will give 250,000 Greeks the chance to take subsidized holidays throughout the year.

As underlined by the minister, the “Tourism for All” program has a dual purpose, as in addition to offering holidays at a low price to 250,000 beneficiaries, it aims to boost domestic tourism, after the impact of Covid-19, for the benefit of businesses in the industry.

The “Tourism for All” program is addressed to low-income Greeks. Eligible parties are those with 16,000 euros of annual individual income and 28,000 for family income.

The duration of the program is six months, from July 15 to December 31, with the possibility of an extension.

Eligible parties can sign up through the Finance Ministry’s online Taxisnet system and following an online draw, 250,000 social tourism coupons will be distributed to Greek citizens.

Despite the wording I believe it's open to all residents who pay their taxes, etc and meet the criteria - not just Greek nationals.

Greece welcomes foreign visitors, restarts summer tourism

Greece reopened its main airports to more international flights on Monday, hoping to kick-start its vital tourism sector after three months in lockdown.

The conservative government now faces the tough task of opening the country to foreign visitors while allaying public concerns about a new virus outbreak.

“You can come to Greece, you will have a fantastic experience, you can sit on a veranda with this wonderful view, have your nice Assyrtiko wine, enjoy the beach,” Mitsotakis said, with a stunning sunset in the background.

“But we don’t want you crowded in a beach bar... There are a few things that we won't allow this summer.”

Android users should uninstall these 36 fraudulent beauty apps, researchers warn
A fraudulent app was published to the Play Store every 11 days, and removed by Google every 17 days, study claims

Google has removed 36 applications from the Play Store after they were found to be responsible for unwanted adverts and taking users to malicious websites.

The apps would also remove their icon from the smartphone’s home screen and apps folder, making it harder for the user to uninstall it.

Researchers from WhiteOps found fraudulent code in a number of beauty camera applications, with names such as “Yoroko Camera,” “Beauty Collage Lite,” and “Rose Photo Editor & Selfie Beauty Camera”.

While Google may have taken the applications off the Play Store, that does not remove them from smartphones automatically.

If any user has these apps still on their device, it is recommended to uninstall them:

Not sure how many GGi regualrs will be using beauty apps but there's a list of dodgy apps in the link, if you do.

Wealthiest in Britain paying just 20 per cent tax rate, new research shows
A tenth of people receiving more than £1m paid a lower rate than someone earning just £15,000

Some of the wealthiest people in the UK are paying an effective tax rate of just 20 per cent, pioneering new research has found.

Researchers from Warwick University and the London School of Economics (LSE) analysed anonymised HMRC tax returns of higher earners and found that the average person with £10m in total remuneration had an effective tax rate of just 21 per cent – less than someone on median earnings of £30,000.

And a tenth of people receiving more than £1m paid a lower rate than someone earning just £15,000.

Green number plates get the green light for a zero-emission future

Green number plates are set to be rolled out from autumn, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps confirmed today (16 June 2020), under plans to drive a green economic recovery.

As part of the government’s plans to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, drivers will be encouraged to make the switch to electric vehicles through the introduction of green number plates. The plates will make it easier for cars to be identified as zero emission vehicles, helping local authorities design and put in place new policies to incentivise people to own and drive them.

For example, drivers could benefit from local initiatives such as cheaper parking and cost-free entry into zero-emission zones where those with a green number plate will be recognised as eligible.

The plates will be identifiable by a green flash on the left-hand side and will be available for zero emission vehicles only.

A Street Cat Named Bob: Stray who inspired series of books dies

A pet that inspired the book A Street Cat Named Bob has died aged 14.

James Bowen met Bob in 2007 during his battle with drug addiction when he found the cat abandoned and injured and decided to look after him.

He began taking the ginger cat with him when busking or selling The Big Issue in London.

Bowen eventually wrote a book about their relationship which became a smash hit and was made into a film, featuring Bob, in 2016.
