Hot air mass to push temperatures up again

A mass of hot air sweeping into Italy and the Balkans from the south is expected to push temperatures back up to unseasonably high levels this week, the National Observatory of Athens’ Meteo weather service said on Monday.

Daytime highs are forecast to reach 35-38 degrees Celsius in parts of the country through Thursday.

Highs on most of the islands – with the exception of those in the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese – and southern parts of the country will remain at more moderate levels in the high 20s and low 30s.

Storms and gales on the way, weather service warns

Powerful storms and gales will hit many parts of the country starting on Thursday afternoon and lasting through Saturday, Greece’s national weather service (EMY) has warned.

In an emergency bulletin issued on Wednesday, EMY said that the islands of the southern Ionian Sea and the western Peloponnese would be the first to feel the new weather front on Thursday afternoon as it sweeps in from the west, bringing downpours and very strong winds.

Greece Braces for October Heatwave

Greek meteorologists say a mini heatwave will hit the country starting on Friday with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit).

Meteorologist Giannis Kallianos, speaking to Proto Thema newspaper, estimated that temperatures will exceed 35 degrees Celsius, mainly in the central parts of the country and in the Peloponnese.
