Twenty two new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, one on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8672 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0847 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1531 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9219 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Ryanair invents ‘five year’ rule for children’s passports

Europe’s biggest budget airline is turning passengers away from flights from the UK to Europe by applying non-existent rules.

Since Brexit, British passports must meet two conditions for travel to the European Union:

*   On the day of travel to the EU, issued less than 10 years ago.
*   On the intended day of leaving the EU, at least three months remaining before the expiry date .

All valid children’s passports automatically meet the first test: they are issued for a maximum of five years and nine months.

But Ryanair insists: ”Under current EU rules which apply, a child’s passport must be no more than five years old on the date of travel.”

There is no such rule.

Tighter Safety Rules for Hotels in Greece, More Inspections

Greek authorities announced this week that starting this month, Greece’s Labor Inspection Body (SEPE) would be carrying out checks at hotels to ensure laws and security regulations are being implemented after Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias said changes would be made to the relevant framework.

Kikilias went on to add that licenses will be revaluated and inspections will include ensuring that lifeguards and security guards are present at hotel swimming pools, safety standards at private playgrounds, as well as adherence by hotel facilities to safety rules with regard to employees and visitors.

Boris Johnson shelves plan ensure restaurant workers can keep tips
Plan dropped from Queen’s Speech despite ministers’ pledges in September

The government has shelved plans to bring in legislation that would ensure restaurant and other hospitality workers get to keep the tips they are given.

The bill, which was endorsed by the government as recently as September, will not be included in the Queen's Speech, according to insiders cited by the Financial Times.

In September business minister Paul Scully said it would become "illegal" to withhold tips and a new law would "ensure tips will go to those who worked for it".

He said the legislation was necessary because of the move towards tipping on cards saw employers exert more control over tips that were taken.

Greek priest to trans woman at food line: “Cut off your tits and come back to get food”
The priest called her a ‘creature of the devil”

A priest handing out charity meals to the destitute verbally attacked a trans woman who lined up to get a portion at church. A video posted online shows the interaction where the priest insults the person in anger.

“I have brought you all my papers, I meet all the conditions. Why do you refuse to give me food?” The trans woman can be heard saying in a video shown by the show “Super Katerina” on Alpha. “You are a man with tits. You are a man pretending to be a woman,” he told her, among other things.

Moon soil can turn carbon dioxide into oxygen and could support life in space, study finds

Moon soil can convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, raising the possibility that it could be used to support human life in space, a study has found.

The report published in the scientific journal Joule found that moon soil contains active compounds that could be used, along with sunlight and carbon dioxide, to produce water, oxygen and fuel to support life on a moonbase and enable further exploration of space.
