Twenty five new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, none on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8796 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0870 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1369 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9200 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Royal Mail wants fleet of 500 drones to carry mail to remote UK communities

The Royal Mail wants a fleet of 500 drones to help deliver the mail to remote communities across the UK.

In the next three years it hopes up to 200 drones will help carry the mail on 50 new routes with the Isles of Scilly, Shetland Islands, Orkney Islands and the Hebrides the first to benefit.

The new services need approval from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Could be shortage of life guard provision on Kef's beaches this summer as it appears central government has only granted sufficient funds to cover around 33% of projected costs (salaries). The beaches work fine without them but every year summer there's three or four bodies daily pulled from the sea around Greece and a lack of lifeguards is likely to impact on Greece's Blue Flag awards.

Allegedly work has begun on a solution to the narrow entrance to Poros on the Skala road by the memorial to the HMS Perseus (red line on map). An existing track is being surfaced to allow two one-way streets, according to locals.

Supermarkets and food chains remove chicken items from shelves over salmonella concerns

Supermarkets and food chains have been removing chicken products from their shelves over fears of salmonella contamination.

Pret, Aldi, Sainsbury's and Marks and Spencer are understood to have made the move because of the possible presence of salmonella in some batches of cooked chicken.

Food processing company Cranswick said a routine internal inspection at its Hull plant had found salmonella in "a limited number of cooked chicken products" prepared there.

Investing in the Greek islands and how much a house with sea view costs

In the islands of the Ionian Sea, 80% of buyers are foreigners, mainly British, Germans and several Russians before the war. Prices have started to show increasing trends in the last 3-4 years and in many cases reach pre-crisis levels. In Kefalonia, the main foreign buyers are British, by 80%, followed by Italians, while recently buyers from Romania and Bulgaria appeared.

India: Elderly couple sue son over lack of grandchildren

An Indian couple has sued their son and daughter-in-law, demanding a grandchild. They say they invested in their son's education and wedding, and are therefore owed at least monetary compensation.

"My son has been married for six years but they are still not planning a baby. At least if we have a grandchild to spend time with, our pain will become bearable," the couple said in a petition.

The compensation would include  the cost of a wedding reception in a five-star hotel, a luxury car worth $80,000 as well as the cost of paying for the couple's honeymoon in Thailand.

A British passenger was arrested by Greek police after attacking the pilot and causing carnage on the plane, which flew from the UK to Greece on Tuesday evening.
