Another holiday cost is on its way

Holiday makers and travellers will soon have to pay to enter European countries. The plan and charges are expected to come into effect in 2023.

Since the UK left the EU following Brexit, a number of travel changes have been implemented. Plans to introduce a visa waiver security check will mean travellers will have to apply to enter the Schengen zone - which includes most EU nations in mainland Europe - and pay a fee before travelling.

The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) security check was first proposed in 2016, when the UK was yet to vote to leave the EU, before being confirmed in 2018. The UK cut ties with the EU on December 31, 2022, after an 11-month transitional period. The visa waiver will apply to travellers aged between 18 and 70. It is expected to cost around £6.

A mutilated corpse that was found last Sunday in the sea off the coast of Thessaloniki, northern Greece, belongs to a 24-year-old Pakistani national, the Coast Guard announced Tuesday.

The body, which was missing the head and lower limbs, was discovered by a fisherman near the area of Halastra who alerted port authorities. The Coast Guard said in a statement on Monday that it bore extensive bruises on the back and hands but there no traces of pre-mortem injuries. It also had a tattoo on the inside of the left arm, depicting an arrow.

The identification was achieved through the fingerprints and a police investigation.
