Britons eye Greek properties

The islands of the Cyclades, Lefkada and Cephalonia in the Ionian Sea, as well as the capital Athens and the nearby islands (e.g. Spetses, Hydra etc) are today the most expensive areas for investing in the property market across Greece. Nevertheless investment interest in them from abroad remain particularly strong and looks set to surge as soon as the health crisis is over.

‘Don’t book foreign holidays,’ urges transport secretary

The transport secretary has once again warned prospective travellers not to book summer holidays.

This morning, Grant Shapps was asked on the BBC Today programme by Mishal Hussain: “Still too early to book foreign holidays?”

Mr Shapps said: “Yes, in as much as we know that the Global Travel Taskforce that I’m running reports on 12 April.

“We’ve said that it will remain illegal to travel internationally till at least 17 May. That’s an ‘at the earliest’ date.”

Australian Artist Captures Greece in Year-Long Project

Internationally renowned artist Jason Roberts traveled across Greece for over a year in order to capture images of the animals, farmers and rural architecture which he believes encapsulate the heritage of Greece.

Titled “Origins – An Artist’s Journey Through the Heart of Greece,” the large project consisted of the artist sketching various images on his journey throughout the country, including animals, traditional architecture, farmers, taverns and olive groves.

The purpose of the project was to portray the richness and diversity of the natural world in Greece, as well as to raise awareness about Greece’s rare farm animal breeds in order to help with efforts in their conservation.

Regions that Roberts visited throughout his journey included areas on mainland Greece and the islands where abundant wildlife could be found, such as Skyros, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Argithea and the monastic peninsula of Mount Athos.

His sketches of animals include the Greek Shepherd dog, the Oulokeratiki Goat, Cretan Mountain Cattle, Kefalonia-Ithaki Sheep and the Skyros Pony.

A comprehensive guide illustrating Jason Roberts’ journey across Greece can be found on his website.

Italian Town of the ‘Last Greeks’ Offers Houses for 1 Euro

An Italian town in the southern region of Calabria, Italy, is offering homes for 1 euro to encourage people to move there and help restore the place into its former glory.

Cinquefrondi a town of about seven thousand inhabitants has a rich history, dating back to Ancient Greece.

However, buyers are obligated to restore the house they buy.

Renovations shouldn’t cost too much, though, as the homes on offer are quite small, at around 40 square meters (about 430 square feet).

The mayor estimates that the costs will be between €10,000 and €20,000.

Cinquefrondi carries a rich history, dating back to Ancient Greece.

Its residents call themselves the “Last Greeks” and one can hear Ancient Greek words in their regional dialect.
