Spouses have till end-Feb to apply for separate tax
Couples wanting to files separate income tax declarations will have to submit an application to the tax authorities within the next 58 days requesting that they be handled individually, as the deadline for the expression of such an interest regarding the incomes of the 2018 financial year expires at the end of February.

Euro turns 20 years old
The European Parliament in Brussels is marking the 20th anniversary of the euro with a light show outside on its esplanade.
Nineteen EU countries now use the euro, but they still frequently argue over how it should work.
The currency was introduced as a way to end the decades-long battles over exchange rates between European nations and to facilitate smooth trade.
Back then, Wim Duisenberg, who was the European Central Bank President, said, "The euro has clearly demonstrated it can achieve its main objectives. These include ensuring price stability, enhancing market transparency across national borders, and facilitating commerce, which is communication, both inside and outside Europe."
While the euro was established on paper on the first of January 1999, hard money wasn't printed for another three years.
Twenty years later, there are two main complaints about the euro.

But despite the fact that dementia and Alzheimer's disease remain the leading cause of death in England and Wales in 2017, millions of people have not taken the test that could quickly help avoid them.

I agree Maik, I would have done this health check, had I received the letter, which should be sent to me every 5 years. When I get the next opportunity, I will be outside the age restriction.

The wretched Indy feeds me auto-run advertising videos with sound but does not give me a direct link to the info about the test, only saying it is on the NHS website. :bleh:

Some surprising revelations emerged from the results of an EU study announced recently. The 2017 study, by Eurostat, the official statistical authority of the European Union, reported how much the typical European household spends on recreation.
The figures, which were released on Friday, showed that Greece, which has been hard-hit by more than eight years of financial crisis and consecutive austerity measures, is ranked fourth in spending among all the E.U. member states.
An average of 15.4 percent of the household income of Greeks is spent in restaurants and hotels.
