Changes to banking in Greece due to the pandemic

Greeceā€™s banking system is taking another step towards digitalisation.

According to an announcement by the Hellenic Bank Association (HBA), a series of transactions are no longer taking place at bank counters, in order to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

Customers are instead encouraged to carry out their banking operations at ATMs or via the internet.

The following transactions will not take place with physical presence in the bank branches until further notice:

*    Cash withdrawals up to 400 euros. Withdrawals up to this amount will be made at ATMs with the use of a debit card.
*    Cash deposits up to 1,000 euros. Deposits up to this amount will be made at ATMs with the use of a debit card.
*    Payments of bills for third-parties (public service, energy, water, telephone, pay-TV, insurance, etc.). They can be paid via internet banking or at ATMs.
*    The updating of bank accounts (transactions and balances) can be carried out through internet banking or at ATMs.
