Cameron closing in on 'four years' deal on in-work benefits to deter EU migrant workers
Outlines of EU deal emerging that will allow David Cameron to claim victory on his key pre-referendum demand to curb benefits for EU workers

Mr Cameron had demanded the right to make non-British EU workers wait four years before claiming in-work benefits, but was roundly rebuffed at the summit on the grounds that it would infringe the core EU principle of non-discrimination.

British officials are now engaged in four weeks of feverish negotiations to prepare a legal text of a deal that can be agreed by all 28 member states at the next European Council summit on February 18-19.

No final papers have been presented, and it is understood British negotiators would still ideally prefer a narrower concession to the EU countries by making only returning British expats wait four years to receive in-work benefits.

Netflix now available in Greece

Greek subscribers will now have access to online services provided by California-based Netflix, the company announced earlier in the week.

Greece was among 130 countries Netflix recently added to its global network.

New users can benefit from a one-month free trial for series and movies and a monthly subscription starting from 7.99 euros, the company said.
http://www.ekathimerini.com/204849/article/ekathimerini/business/netflix-now-available-in-greece

Bear in mind Netflix in Greece may not offer the same (or as much) as Netflix USA or UK offer:

If you check this comparison listing of movies and shows available on Netflix UK and US for example, you will notice that there are big differences between the two offerings.

Netflix subscribers from the US have access to 6991 shows and movies (not counting multiple episodes of the same show) while UK subscribers to only 3621 movies and shows.

And things are equally unequal when you compare the availability in other countries Netflix is available in.

Flying Scotsman: Famous engine back on tracks

One of the world's most famous railway locomotives, Flying Scotsman, is to take its first public test-run under steam after a decade off the tracks.

The engine, which was retired from service in 1963, has been restored for York's National Railway Museum (NRM) in a shed in Bury, Greater Manchester.

Drink tea instead of wine, health chief says
Dame Sally Davies tells radio listeners people needed to take into account the clear link between alcohol and cancer

The report said drinking regularly over time can lead to a wide range of illnesses including cancers, strokes, heart disease, liver disease, and damage to the brain and nervous system.

Nevertheless, it says drinking 14 unit or less per week keeps "the risk of mortality from cancers or other diseases" - such as liver disease - low.

Sir David Spiegelhalter, professor of the public understanding of risk at the University of Cambridge, said: "These guidelines define 'low-risk' drinking as giving you less than a 1% chance of dying from an alcohol-related condition. So should we feel ok about risks of this level? An hour of TV watching a day, or a bacon sandwich a couple of times a week, is more dangerous to your long-term health... It all seems to come down to what pleasure you get from moderate drinking."

Catalan town hall seriously downsizes monarch

Representatives of a Catalan town hall have been ordered to appear before a judge after fulfilling their legal obligation to display a portrait of the reigning monarch ... using a passport-sized portrait of King Felipe VI.

The 17-strong council in Torredembarra, Tarragona, voted unanimously to downsize Phil the Sixth on the grounds that while the law obliges it to hang the king in the council chamber, "it does not specify the size of the image".

Thanks Maik. Wonderful high quality vids - but strange that it appears to be "assisted" by a crap looking 60's diesel.  I thought its number was 4472 - as on earlier vids on YouTube but is shown here as 103.  Checking Wikipedia it appears to have had various numbers in its earlier life with LNER/BR.  The article is interesting as the engine has been a very expensive toy for its various owners since it was decommissioned by BR.

Sure is!!! But what a lovely toy!

*Think* the old diesel is to assist with its 'running in' - or maybe just in case it conks down

Stuff like that don't conk down  coz it was built by men who knew their trade and had the ability to use their skills to the enth' degree. Stuff that we seem to be letting go. Imo. Our apprentices want it all now without any background knowlege. Luv the trains ! Choo  Choo !

Great to see Flying Scotsman steaming again.
From my trainspotting days, I have a record from 1958 of being on trains pulled by A3's Tagalie and Flying Scotsman, when they were in British Railways service.
Flying Scotsman was on shed at Kings Cross at that time, so I would have seen it many times on my weekend visits to the shed.
Where's my duffle coat?

Looking forward to seeing her at Pickering in March on the North Yorks Railway between Pickering and Whitby. Sadly all the tickets have been sold for a ride but we shall ride out into the moors to see her and hopefully  get a few photos. I have a soft spot for this old one as my Granddad drove her many moons ago!! Hopefully it might make it to our local depot -The Roundhouse ,at Barrow hill Chesterfield on their open day later in the summer.

Wow, that is something to be proud of! Would your Granddad have been a driver prior to 1948, when she was located at Doncaster shed, or later at Kings Cross?

Prior to 1948 Roger when she was at Doncaster. Yes he told me many tales about the steam train days and the various "Namers"he had driven.  Hiding in tunnels during the Blitz. About the open days at the Round House at Barrow Hill, a few years ago we went down when Tornado was there along with all the same class engines it was an amazing sight to see them all lined up in full steam and you could have a short ride on them. Across from our house and before houses were built on it was a large area of spare land that housed the main Midland line from London to Sheffield. Many times when the children were little we have gone across to see steam trains come up on their way to Doncaster or York. Lovely to hear them Tooting as they were approaching Chesterfield. Such memories they bring back ,train spotting, holidays to Painton and Brixham travelling all the way on the Mail train through the night in a corridor less carriage. Smuts all over you! Days out hiking in the Peak District travelling on the steam trains from Sheffield through Totley Tunnel. Happy Times !!!
