Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9117 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1094 USD
£1 GBP = 1.0969 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9014 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

E-fraud soars 790% in 3 years

Electronic fraud is on the rise in Greece, due not only to the high penetration of the internet and smartphones, but also to the fact that cybercriminals are constantly discovering new ways of deception.

‘Drunk’ woman asked to ‘lay on top of’ man during flight

A rowdy, drunken woman on a flight from Greece to the Big Apple allegedly sexually harassed the man next to her and nearly forced an emergency landing, according to a lawsuit.

The “visibly intoxicated” passenger commented on his “big muscles,” massaged his neck and caressed his inner thigh, and “asked if she could lay on top of me in a ‘non-sexual way,'” according to court papers.

She never should have been allowed to board Flight 203 from Athens to Kennedy Airport, contends the man — who is suing Delta for allegedly overserving her and failing to take his complaints seriously.”

He was ignored because he is a male,” the victim charged in the Brooklyn Federal Court complaint.

The man, who is seeking unspecified damages, claims he now has “extreme anxiety when flying.”

Digital campaign starts for 112 emergency number

A digital campaign, with two videos with information about the operation and importance of the 112 number in emergency situations, was launched on Saturday by the Climate Crisis and Civil Protection ministries on the occasion of European 112 Day.

The 112 number can be called in case of an emergency and people are in need of urgent help, in Greece and the EU.

On the outgoing side, 112 alerts are sent to people in situations where there is a danger or emergency near the area they are in, so the necessary self-protection measures or actions are taken to stay safe.

Have you seen this bug? Scientists call on Britain’s gardeners to track elusive aphid
The elusive giant willow aphid goes into hiding in spring. Now the Royal Horticultural Society wants volunteers to help find out why

Gardeners have been urged by scientists to help find a mysterious bug which disappears in spring and reappears at the end of summer.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is asking people to send in sightings of the giant willow aphid (Tuberolachnus salignus) so that they can find out where it goes and how it interacts with garden plants.

At close to 6mm long with a distinctive shark-like fin, it is one of the UK’s largest aphid species, and an RHS team of entomologists is asking gardeners to send pictures if they see it.

Turkey issues 113 arrest warrants connected to building construction

Officials in Turkey say 113 arrest warrants have been issued in connection with the construction of buildings that collapsed in Monday's earthquake.

Turkish police have already taken at least 12 people into custody, including building contractors.

Meanwhile, unrest in southern Turkey has disrupted rescue efforts in some places.

The number of people confirmed to have died in Turkey and Syria has risen to more than 30,000.

More arrests are expected - but the action will be seen by many as an attempt to divert overall blame for the disaster.

With elections looming, the president's future is on the line after spending 20 years in power.
