Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9155 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1021 USD
£1 GBP = 1.0923 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9074 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Moisis Elisaf, Greece’s first Jewish mayor, dead at 68

Moisis Elisaf, mayor of the city of Ioannina, in northwestern Greece, and the first Greek-Jew to hold a mayoral post died on Friday after a brief battle with cancer. He was 68.

He was born in 1954 in Ioannina. His parents were Holocaust survivors who managed to escape the roundup in which most of the city’s Jews were deported to Auschwitz during the Nazi occupation of Greece, with only 9% of the community surviving the war.

Ioannina’s Jewish community numbers just a few dozen people today, but was once the center of the unique 2,300 year-old Romaniote Jewish tradition.

British Man Finds Ancient Greek Coin Depicting Alexander The Great And Zeus When Cleaning His Mum's House

Charles Hanson, star of TV show Antiques Road Trip, said: ‘I was staggered. This large silver coin originated from Ancient Greece.

‘It’s known as a tetradrachm and this example would have been minted during the reign of Alexander the Great in circa 336-323 BC.

‘The tetradrachm was nominally equivalent to four drachmae.

‘Over time it effectively became the standard coin of the antiquity, spreading well beyond the borders of the Greek World.

‘Due to their often high artistic level tetradrachms are keenly collected today, and well-preserved or rare specimens can achieve strong prices.

‘The coin found by our client depicts Alexander the Great and the guise of Hercules while the reverse shows Zeus seated.'

The coin is expected to fetch between £200-£300 when it goes under the hammer on March 8.

Greece Expects 20 Percent Increase in Tourism This Year

On Friday, Greece’s Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias said that Greece will experience a 20 percent increase in tourism this year. He also predicted a lengthening of the season this summer.

Last October was one of the best months for tourism in recent history, and there were more tourists in the country than any other previous October. Most visitors to Greece in the latter portion of last year’s tourist season came from the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland, Cyprus, and Israel.

The Greek economy undoubtedly benefits tremendously from tourism, but the potential environmental impacts of over-tourism have received increasing attention in Greece in recent years as interest in environmentalism and conservation grows.

Over-tourism might also pose a threat to Greece’s historical and cultural monuments. During a UNESCO conference in November last year, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis claimed that “excessive tourism” placed too much stress on monuments, saying it was important to highlight alternative options for visitors
