Greece launched an international tender on Monday for a study on the feasibility of a proposed pipeline to carry gas from Israel and Cyprus in an effort to reduce dependence on Russian supplies.

The Eastern Mediterranean Pipeline is designed to initially carry 8 billion cubic metres a year of Israeli and Cypriot gas.

Greece intends to adopt a proposal made by the European Commission and adapt its tourism services to a set of voluntary quality principles, according to Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni. The Commission has proposed a set of voluntary “European Tourism Quality Principles” to ensure that tourists traveling to other Member States or visiting the continent from third countries will get value for their money.

The proposed set of voluntary “European Tourism Quality Principles” cover four main areas:

- staff training under the supervision of a quality coordinator,
- consumer satisfaction to ensure that tourist can rely on handling of their complaints,
- cleanliness and maintenance,
- correctness and reliability of information in at least the most relevant foreign language.

Staff training!?! Greek bosses don't pay three bob an hour to people who don't know exactly what the boss wants at any given time without needing to be told.

That's what I've been reliably told by a guy in a bar who comes from Bulgaria for summer work but is taken to be a local Greek by tourists 'cos he's got a dark complexion and speaks a funny language.

Argostoli poice arrested a 41 year old local on Sunday for previously syphoning petrol from two cars.

During this week ELTA is providing free shipping for internal mail parcels for the Kefalonia relief effort.

Yup, that's deffo Greek, as in foreign.  OK in Greece - just as long as he doesn't try to work in the UK.   We don't want any Europeans working in our country, but no probs about Brits working in Spain or Greece.  It's what we want to see, innit, along with pie and chips and Watneys Red Barrel.  :oki:

Strangely enough, it does seem to be what some Brits like. Not sure about the Red Barrel.

A bit more news:

At present count, about 18 new parties and formations have been created since the last elections in June 2012. And these weeks seem to be the season for them, with most set up in between March and April, as our timeline below shows. With local and European elections approaching in May, more parties are sure to join them. If you believe the rumours, among those toying with the idea of setting up new parties are former prime minister George Papandreou and members of the former royal family, the Glücksburgs.

Perhaps we'll get a Greek version of the Australian Sex Party

Nah, definitely a Mythos rather than a Red Barrel.  Funny how Greece was very happy to have a Bavarian as its first Monarch.  Bring back King Otto, I say!!   :oki:

Actually the Enet article is remarkable how even Greece with its love of multiple factions, party splits and political dynasties has excelled itself this year.  Given that in elections each candidate gets his/her own ballot paper to put in the box plus the "blank ballot" given out to every voter that turns up, there could well be a shortage of trees in Greece later this year.  ;)

Doubt Greece had much of a say in the matter and Otto wasn't that popular. Can't see the Glücksburgs trying to form a political party, unless they've totally got their heads in the clouds.
