Eighty five new cases of coronavirus confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, most are in Argostoli and around 50% are aged under 18. No new cases on Ithaka.

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1675
1 USD = € 0.8702

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Pretty simple question. Even I understand it. But BoJo doesn't, we've got to wait for the Met Police to give us the answer as to whether BoJo:
a) didn't bother to read the rules
b) was too stupid to understand the rules
c) thought he was above the law
d) all three above

Gamekeeper filmed ‘brutally’ killing buzzards avoids jail
Existing punishments are no deterrent, RSPB warns after John Orrey pleads guilty to illegal killing of birds of prey

A gamekeeper has escaped jail after pleading guilty to killing two buzzards to protect pheasants for shooting in Nottinghamshire.

John Orrey was caught on camera “brutally” killing the birds of prey with a “slash hook”, a bladed tool with a long wooden handle, after the RSPB placed a hidden camera close to the trap.

Orrey received a prison sentence of 20 weeks, suspended for one year, and a £1,000 fine.

Royal Mail adds barcodes to stamps allowing people to watch videos or see messages from senders
Those who receive a letter with one of the new stamps will be able to view content chosen by the sender, such as a birthday message or other greeting, after scanning the barcode using the Royal Mail app.

Royal Mail has added special barcodes to stamps, making it possible for people to watch videos, read messages and view other information from senders.

The move, which starts on Tuesday, follows a successful trial, with the aim of connecting a letter with the digital world.

Customers can scan the barcodes while using the Royal Mail app and will eventually be able to watch videos, information about services, or even birthday messages and other greetings from senders.

At the moment, a video featuring Shaun the Sheep, created exclusively for Royal Mail by animation studio Aardman, is available to view.

Swedish firm deploys crows to pick up cigarette butts
Clever corvids become newest weapon in Södertälje’s war against street litter

Crows are being recruited to pick up discarded cigarette butts from the streets and squares of a Swedish city as part of a cost-cutting drive.

The wild birds carry out the task as they receive a little food for every butt that they deposit in a bespoke machine designed by a startup in Södertälje, near Stockholm.

“They are wild birds taking part on a voluntary basis,” said Christian Günther-Hanssen, the founder of Corvid Cleaning, the company behind the method.

People vaccinated abroad can register online for Greek certification

Foreign and Greek nationals who have been vaccinated for Covid-19 in any of 60 countries that are part of the European Certificate program can now sign up on the online Greek National Vaccination Registry, Deputy Digital Governance Minister George Georgantas told Parliament on Monday.

According to Georgantas, people who have been administered a single or two doses of a vaccine in one of the European Union’s 27 countries or in another 33 besides those can register on the anagnorisi.emvolio.gov.gr platform (also available in English) to have their certificates recognized. The platform may also be used by those who have received two doses in Greece and a booster shot abroad.

I had a bit of a problem getting on to the anagnorisi.emvolio.gov.gr website, when I did there's this message:

Digital COVID-19 Certificate recognition

Covid: ITV News reveals £8.7 billion of losses on PPE in government accounts

Buried on page 199 of the Department of Health and Social Care’s annual report published yesterday is the shocking disclosure that it has incurred £8.7 billion of losses - £8.7 billion! - on £12.1 billion of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) bought in 2020/21.

Think about how that money could have been deployed in hospitals. Surely there needs to be a statement from Sajid Javid to Parliament about this.

Woman says she ‘spiritually and psychologically’ identifies as a wolf

An online investigator told This Morning's hosts she spiritually identifies as a wolf.

27-year-old Naia Ōkami told Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humes she acknowledges that her body is human but psychologically believes she is a British Columbian wolf.

The Seattle native said: “I don’t physically believe I am a wolf,”

“It’s more a spiritual and psychological identification as a wolf-like I’m totally aware I’m human ... but by the same token, spiritually I am a wolf.”

Ms Ōkami also identifies as otherkin, meaning she does not identify entirely as human.

At one time she'd have been a candidate for the loony bin.

Oops, probably un-pc!

Wonder if Royal Mail management signing off these wondrous capabilities know you can do all that already.

Without a Royal Mail App. And without spending a penny on a stamp.

I never knew that! Mind you, I don't have a smart phone and I don't really want my stamps to show videos or sing happy birthday. I just want it to cost as little as possible and arrive on time.

Driver arrested over Maida Vale knife killer's death faces no charge

A driver who used his car to try to stop a woman being stabbed by her stalker ex-husband in west London has been released without charge.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder and later bailed after Leon McCaskre, 41, died when he was hit while killing Yasmin Chkaifi, 43, in Maida Vale.

The Met Police said it had been decided the 26-year-old would face no further action after a review of the evidence.

The man said he was grateful and thanked those who had supported him.

Daily Mail, hardly the Labour Party's biggest ally:

What is the TRUTH behind PM's Jimmy Savile 'smear' on Keir Starmer? The facts and fiction after Boris Johnson accused the Labour leader of failing to prosecute notorious paedophile when he was DPP
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10467293/What-TRUTH-PMs-Jimmy-Savile-smear-Keir-Starmer.html

The slur has been debunked by the BBC:

Quote
No evidence for Boris Johnson's claim about Keir Starmer and Jimmy Savile

BBC Reality Check has examined Boris Johnson's claim that Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile when he was director of public prosecutions (DPP) and has found no evidence that Sir Keir was involved at any point in the decision not to charge Savile.

The Labour leader called Mr Johnson's comments a "ridiculous slur" and they have been criticised by the Commons Speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/60213975

Don't like the BBC? OK, here's what Reuters say:

Quote
VERDICT

False. There is no evidence to suggest Sir Keir Starmer, then DPP of the CPS, was directly involved in the decision not to prosecute Jimmy Savile.

This article was produced by the Reuters Fact Check team.

Jimmy Savile's victims call on Boris Johnson to withdraw Sir Keir Starmer accusations

The prime minister's spokesman has said he stands by what he said in the Commons on Monday - that the Labour leader failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile.
https://news.sky.com/story/jimmy-saviles-victims-call-on-boris-johnson-to-withdraw-sir-keir-starmer-accusations-12530517

Deputy PM Dominic Raab admitted he can't substantiate BoJo's slur and Conservative MPs who value honesty and integrity, such as Senior Conservative MP Simon Hoare and former chief whip Julian Smith, have called for BoJo to withdraw the comment.

Are you blaming Keir Starmer for the existence of grooming gangs? If we want to get into the absurd: Who's the Prime Minister? Does he not have overall responsibility?

War in Ukraine? I watched a bit of TV news last night, one of the questions posed by a Ukrainian official was, "Is Johnson here for our benefit, or his?" If the Ukrainians believe a word he says they are seriously deluding themselves. BoJo must be quietly hoping for escalation of the situation, a great opportunity to divert attention from his "do what I say, not as I do" pizza and piss ups government.

Johnson is an incompetent, egotistical liar increasingly reliant on dirty tricks. If you're happy with that, fine. I'm not (just in case anyone's wondering  ;)).
