Kef fire risk 29/10/22: Low

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8920 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0324 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1211 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9686 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:

Octopus Energy to take over collapsed supplier Bulb

Energy supplier Octopus Energy is to buy its smaller competitor Bulb, after the UK government approved a deal.

Bulb collapsed last year after rising gas and electricity prices, and has since been run by the government.

Its 1.5 million customers will not experience "any change or disruption to their energy supplies", the government said.

The deal is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Not only a neat line but socially distanced, too! (pic in link)

Unconfirmed: several churches broken into and robbed over the past few nights: the church of  Panagia in Demoutsadata, the church at Kourouklata, Ai Yiannis in Fokata and the Holy Church of Evangelistria in Pessada. Little of value in the churches to be taken and some items found dumped near the church in Pessada.

Zulu coronation: King Misuzulu crowned in historic South Africa ceremony

A new Zulu king has been crowned at a historic event attended by thousands in South Africa's coastal city of Durban.

King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini was formally acknowledged as monarch by President Cyril Ramaphosa, who gave him a certificate of recognition.

The ceremony was the first Zulu coronation since South Africa became a democracy in 1994.

It ends a long and bitter tussle to find a successor for King Goodwill Zwelithini who died last year.

He was the longest-reigning Zulu monarch, having served on the throne for almost 50 years.

He had six wives and at least 26 children.

No 10 alarm as Boris Johnson plans to attend Cop27 climate summit

A row over prime minister Rishi Sunak’s refusal to attend the Cop27 climate summit took an extraordinary twist on Saturday night as the Observer was informed that his predecessor but one – Boris Johnson – is planning to attend the event.

Several sources said they had been told that Johnson is intending to go to the crucial meeting of world leaders in Egypt to show his solidarity with the battle against the climate crisis.

Johnson’s attendance would be potentially explosive just days after Sunak took over as prime minister and decided he did not have time to attend.
