Kef fire risk 30/10/22: Low

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8920 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0324 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1211 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9686 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:

Chinese man falls seriously ill after revenge-eating live crab
‘I wanted to take revenge for my daughter’

A man in China became seriously ill after he ate a live crab in what he said was an act of revenge for pinching his daughter, according to a report.

Mr Lu’s medical reports showed pathology changes in his chest, abdomen, liver and digestive system but were unable to identify the exact cause.

It was only after Mr Lu’s wife mentioned that he had eaten “something special” the man confessed he had taken revenge on the crab by eating it live.

Tragedy on Crete over night: around midnight a huge boulder slipped down a mountain at Agia Fotia, Ierapetra, and demolished two rooms in a tourist block on the beach. One of the rooms was unoccupied but the other was occupied by a family of three said to be from Lithuania, not clear if they were tourists or workers. The father was rescued uninjured, the nine year old child was trapped under rubble but rescued relatively uninjured. After a long rescue operation the mother was found dead buried under rubble.

Michael Gove commits to 300,000 homes target

Housing Secretary Michael Gove has said the government is still committed to a manifesto pledge of building 300,000 homes every year by the mid-2020s.

Former PM Liz Truss had thrown doubt on the aim, saying she wanted to scrap "Stalinist" housing targets.

He said new developments should be "more beautiful", have the consent of the local community, be accompanied by the right infrastructure and protect the environment.

One cat still missing after vandals trash animal sanctuary in Wythall

An animal sanctuary in Wythall has lost one of its cats after vandals broke in and trashed the site.

Fur and Feathers Animal Sanctuary provides care for several different types of animals, giving them a place to live before they're adopted by new owners.

But late on Tuesday night it was broken into and vandalised, causing some cats to flee their pens. One is still missing.
