Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8881 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0677 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1260 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9366 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Gunmen open fire at chasing police car

A police patrol car was struck by gunshots during a pursuit near the town of Arta in northern Greece late Tuesday.

According to a police report, the officers were on patrol near the village of Kypseli at about 9.30 p.m. local time when they attempted to pull over a vehicle without license plates and three men inside.

The car failed to stop for police, which resulted in a pursuit. During the chase, one of the suspects fired a number of shots towards the police car with what is believed to be a Kalashnikov rifle.

None of the officers were injured and the three men fled.

Inside the ‘battery farms’ where puppies are exploited by criminals for cash

Locked up, rarely fed and with little human interaction; this is the reality of illegal puppy breeding farms.

In a cold farm shed in central Scotland, dogs are living without fresh food or water, used solely to make money.

The illegal trade is worth £13 million in Scotland alone and is being linked to wider organised criminal gang networks.

ITV News was given exclusive access to a joint Scottish SPCA and Police Scotland raid on a low welfare facility.

While there, we were shown awful conditions with dogs living amongst their own faeces, empty crates to sleep on with a continuous cold winter wind and dim lighting.

Death row inmates sue Japan over ‘cruel’ executions by hanging
Death by hanging ‘causes unbearable pain and violates international covenants on human rights’

Three death row inmates in Japan are filing a case against the Fumio Kishida administration seeking abolition of the “cruel” practice of execution by hanging, their lawyer said on Tuesday.

The three prisoners have called the method of capital punishment – the only one that is used in Japan – inhumane and sought 33 million yen (£198,000) in compensation for psychological distress caused to them since they were given the death sentence in 2000.

The three have argued that living in fear and anticipating death for many years has caused “mental agony”, the plaintiff’s lawyer said.

Over 100 people, including serial killers, face capital punishment in the country.
