Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9063 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1172 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1034 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8951 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

A Child Goes Missing In Greece Every Two Days

A child goes missing in Greece about every two days. As Proto Thema reported, most of them return home at some point.

In some cases, however, hours, days and years pass, excruciatingly without any new evidence emerging...

In the most recent incident, the kidnapping of a 14-year-old girl from Nea Smyrni, processes and services worked. The girl was found, but she was the victim of sexual exploitation.

According to the Missing Children Europe organisation, from EU countries, 250,000 children disappear annually, while thousands more go missing without being declared as they are not reported to the authorities.

On average every year in Greece, the special Hotline for Missing Children 11600 receives more than 6,000 calls concerning missing children.

The cases that reach the stage of investigation - that is, when the help of the authorities is needed - are between 150-200 each year. A percentage of 80%-90% of them are found.

Plants cry out when they need watering - but humans can’t hear them
Scientists find recordings of plants show they make occasional ultrasonic popping noises likely heard by insects and mammals

Plants were generally thought to be an uncomplaining bunch, silently enduring the ravages of neglect, drought or disease with stoical forbearance.

Now scientists have discovered that they cry out when distressed or need watering, even though humans cannot hear their high-pitched emergency calls.

Recordings of tomato, tobacco, wheat, corn and cactus show that they make occasional ultrasonic popping noises - similar to bubble wrap - which ramp up when under stress.

The sounds are comparable in volume to normal human conversation, but are too high for human ears to detect. However it is likely they can be heard by insects, other mammals, and possibly other plants.

Amazon one-time passwords: customers report item thefts and parcels being switched
What to do if you experience an issue with an Amazon delivery

Which? has spoken to a number of Amazon customers who have experienced issues with the retailer's one-time password (OTP) delivery system.

For some purchases, Amazon sends a six-digit OTP to you ahead of your delivery, which you must read out to your courier before they hand over your parcel.

These codes are designed to give you peace of mind that high-value purchases will arrive safely, but we've heard from customers who have had items stolen or swapped out.

Here we explain how the OTP system works and offer advice on resolving issues.

Covid: More than 1.4 billion items of PPE worth nearly £1bn burned by the Government
The haul of destroyed items includes more than 570 million aprons, more than 360 million eye protectors and more than 450 million face masks

The Government has repeatedly faced criticism over its handling of PPE during the pandemic, including the purchase of useless items.

Last year, the Commons Public Accounts Committee said the Government had lost 75 per cent of the £12bn it spent on PPE in the first year of the pandemic to inflated prices and kit that did not meet requirements – including £4bn of PPE that could not be used in the NHS.

The Government announced in December it was suing one firm that supplied it with PPE for £122m plus costs. PPE Medpro won contracts after being recommended by Tory peer Baroness Mone. She denies any wrongdoing.

The Government is attempting to get its money back on one of the deals in the High Court, claiming the medical gowns supplied “did not comply with the specification in the contract”.

PPE Medpro has said it would rigorously defend the claim.

A DHSC spokesman said: "Our priority throughout the pandemic was saving lives – and we make no apology for erring on the side of caution and ensuring the NHS had the PPE it needed to deal with in the worst-case scenario."
