Hospital trust takes on 26 nurses following Greece and Cyprus recruitment drive

MORE than 25 nurses have accepted jobs with the trust which runs Furness General Hospital in Barrow - and more than 30 others are set to be taken on.

Wards across the hospitals run by University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) will soon benefit from the welcome staffing boost.

A successful international recruitment campaign in Greece and Cyprus has led to 26 qualified nurses accepting jobs.

The trust last week announced it will invest more than £750,000 to recruit a further 34 nurses.

Earlier this month, a team from the trust travelled to Cyprus and Greece to interview a pool of qualified nurse candidates.

The campaign aimed to find 40 high-quality nurses and from 29 offers, 26 nurses have now formally accepted jobs.

Wind power is giving good results, currently covering 6% of Greece's energy needs. This figure places the country near the top of the European wind-power ranking, led by Denmark (27% of total energy coming from wind), followed by Portugal (17%), Ireland (13%), Germany (11%), and Spain (10%). Greece outranks the United Kingdom and Italy (5%) – two countries among the largest producers in the world in terms of absolute power, with China being the undisputed leader, but also – in spite of the windmill trademark – the Netherlands.

After years of investment, Greece has now 139 wind farms, distributed both in several inland areas and on the islands.

Strange how the Greek parliament building isn't surrounded by wind turbines - there's a helluva lot of hot air emanating from that building.

Well, I'm neither a scientist nor a mechanic but can I offer some personal thoughts?

Working in the car hire business we sometimes get people coming in and telling us the yellow/orange engine management system light has come on (but the engine is running fine). Not sure why this is but we suspect that, somewhere down the supply chain, someone is skimming petrol 'off the top' and adding a cheaper substitute. Just enough so that engines run OK even if detected by the e.m.s.

And pretty sure that, if you get some crap in the petrol then, when it reaches the carb it can cause the engine to splutter if not stall.

Now, if you have a fan the blades will, over time, attract dust and the build-up *will* affect the power of the fan.

Methinks... wind turbines need good quality, fresh air.

Not hot air polluted with loads of crap...

Heard that today in 1982 the Panayiotis, a small cargo ship owned and crewed by Kefalonians, became beached on what is (now) known as Navagio beach, Zakynthos, while smuggling cigarettes.

Three teenage boys were taken into custody in Arta, northwestern Greece, on Tuesday following an uproar caused by a video posted on a social networking website allegedly showing them pouring flammable liquid onto a small dog and setting it alight.

A police announcement on Tuesday said the three suspects are males aged 11, 14 and 16 respectively. A search is under way for a third suspect who is believed to have shot the video, which prompted angry reactions from animal rights groups and the local community.

Police were able to track the suspects with the help of the cyber crimes unit.

Windows 9 (or whatever it's to be called) will be revealed to selected media around 20:00 EET today, a (downloadable?) preview due to be available online early October. Latest and greatest version of Windows due for release sometime early 2015, probably April.
