Kef fire risk 17/07/22: High (https://www.civilprotection.gr/el/imerisios-hartis-provlepsis-kindynoy-pyrkagias-17072022)

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.871 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0305 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1481 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9704 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the Post Office (https://www.postoffice.co.uk/travel-money).
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Cargo plane operated by Ukraine carrier crashes near Kavala

An Antonov cargo plane operated by a Ukraine-based air carrier crashed Saturday near the city of Kavala in northern Greece, authorities said.

Greek Civil Aviation authorities say the flight was heading from Serbia to Jordan, but have not been able to confirm how many people were on board or what the plane’s cargo was. It was operated by Meridian, a cargo carrier.

Boris Johnson and the Lebedevs: how I exposed the prime minister’s defining scandal
The ties between the PM and an ex-KGB officer, first revealed in the Observer three years ago, could be Johnson’s lasting legacy

A strange story about Boris Johnson and the son of ex-KGB lieutenant-colonel Alexander Lebedev, Evgeny Lebedev, who Johnson appointed to a life peerage as Baron Lebedev of Hampton. A long read but it's Sunday and it is quite intriguing.

A young lad on a motorcycle was involved in an accident at Karavomylos this morning and, despite having head injuries, had to wait almost an hour for an ambulance to arrive from Argostoli. There are ambulances based in Sami but no-one is paid to drive them at the weekend.

Seems strange... a little Greek island where things are still 'avrio' and an hour is a long time to wait for an ambulance...

Greece’s traditional kiosks fading away

The economic crisis, the pandemic and new consumer habits have all conspired in the decline of the number of kiosks, once an intrinsic feature of life for Greeks. Indicatively, of the 9,904 kiosks across Greece in 2010 just 4,985 remain today. Of those, 1,000 are within the boundaries of the Municipality of Athens, though only 400 are in operation.

Nice that they are enjoying the fruit Maik and hopefully keeping them going through this intense weather. We have sadly lost baby hedgehogs and have seen little birds quite distressed. This inspite of putting several bowls of fresh water down at ground level and still putting out seed.Must be very hard for them when the soil is so hard and they cant get to worms and grubs. My tomatoes in the greenhouse will be coming ready cooked as its 106f in there today Monday.Never tried cooked cucumber but that looks as if it will be the case too.
