Kef fire risk 30/06/22: Medium

Sixty one new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, six on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8906 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0833 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1228 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9231 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Captain Tom Foundation faces statutory Charity Commission inquiry over fresh finance concerns

The charity watchdog is opening a probe into the charity launched in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore - after identifying fresh "concerns" about his family's involvement.

The Charity Commission said a request to pay a £100,000 salary to the late fundraising hero's daughter was a key focus of its statutory inquiry into the Captain Tom Foundation.

The commission had opened a case into the charity in March 2021, a month after Sir Tom died, and began reviewing the set-up of the organisation.

But it now plans to investigate payments by the charity to a company linked to Hannah Ingram-Moore, Captain Sir Tom's daughter, and her husband's companies, in an inquiry focused the foundation's independence from the family.

It has also flagged concerns about intellectual property rights and the ability of a company linked to the couple to trademark names linked to "Captain Tom" without the charity objecting - a move the watchdog said may have generated "significant profit" for the company.

Scam doing the rounds on Kef, and possibly other places in Greece, whereby restaurateurs are being contacted by someone claiming to be an EFET (Hellenic Food Authority) officer who demands upto 100 euros per employee to issue a Certificate of Health and Food Safety, or issue the establishment with a fine.

Fishermen have reported finding dozens of octopuses in their lobster pots and cuttlefish traps in a single day when usually they might find one or two a year.

Andy Donoghue said he "couldn't believe his eyes" when he saw the metre-wide creature, which had washed up on Seacombe beach in Wallasey, Wirral.
