Kef fire risk 11/07/22: Medium

Seventy seven new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, four on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8712 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0468 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1478 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9553 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

'Jesus f------ a---hole': How Boris Johnson lost his cool with a woman he had an affair with

Boris Johnson lost his temper with a woman he had an affair with, telling her in a recorded message “Jesus f------ a---hole” when she complained he had refused to meet her.

Mr Johnson was mayor of London and MP for Henley when he embarked on a brief relationship with the woman. He was 43 at the time and married with four children while the woman was a graduate in her 20s and had become involved in Conservative Party politics.

Mr Johnson has in recent weeks been accused of trying to secure a job for his then mistress Carrie Symonds (now his third wife) as his chief of staff at the Foreign Office in 2018.  While mayor in 2011, he helped another lover, Jennifer Arcuri, to secure access to taxpayer-funded trips in 2011.

Car theft ‘effectively decriminalised’ because police solve so few break-ins

Scotland Yard has “effectively decriminalised” theft from cars, putting pressure on the new commissioner Sir Mark Rowley to take action.

An analysis by The Telegraph of Home Office data has shown that the Metropolitan Police solved just 05. per cent, 271 out of nearly 55,000 thefts from vehicles in London ast year.

Because of the size of the Metropolitan Police’s area, it accounts for nearly a quarter of all car thefts recorded by police in England and Wales.

12ft is a website that allows online paywalls to be bypassed. It was created by Thomas Miller. The name is based on the phrase "Show me a 10 foot wall and I’ll show you a 12 foot ladder". It bypasses paywalls by pretending to be a search engine crawler when requesting a webpage. Websites with paywalls often allow access to search engine crawlers to ensure their pages appear in search engines.

Adding salt to food at table can cut years off your life, study finds

Adding salt to meals at the table is linked to an earlier death, according to a study of 500,000 middle-aged Britons.

Researchers found that always adding salt to food knocks more than two years off life expectancy for men and one-and-a-half years for women. This does not include seasoning during the cooking process.

Osborne, Hancock and other ministers did not declare secret Uber meetings
Leaked files show at least six Tory ministers attended meetings that experts say expose UK lobbying loopholes

At least six Conservative ministers, including the then chancellor, George Osborne, and the future health secretary Matt Hancock, did not declare secret meetings at which they were lobbied by Uber, leaked files reveal.

The disclosure will reignite questions over whether Uber recruited Osborne and other supportive Conservative cabinet ministers to pressure the then London mayor, Boris Johnson, into diluting proposed minicab reforms in the autumn of 2015.

During a crucial period in the company’s expansion, its lobbyists met Osborne and Hancock, as well as Michael Gove, Priti Patel, Sajid Javid and Ed Vaizey, the Uber documents record. None of these encounters were disclosed by the relevant departments.

Faroe Islands to limit bloody dolphin slaughter after 1,400 killed in one day
Graphic image warning: Last year’s ‘unusually large catch’ caused widespread outrage and led to a review of the tradition

The Faroe Islands is set to limit its bloody dolphin hunt following public outcry when last year’s hunt saw 1,400 animals killed in a single day.

A review was ordered in February after a petition with almost 1.3 million signatures submitted to the Faroese government called for a ban on the tradition.

The hunt has long received widespread criticism, especially from animal rights activists who deem the practie as barbaric and unnecessary.

Last year’s “unusually large” killing of 1,423 dolphins shocked locals and even drew criticism from groups involved in the act.

Britain to have new PM by 5 September as Tory leadership rules announced

Britain’s new prime minister will be announced on 5 September, it has been announced, as the starting gun was fired on a Tory leadership race that will see the hopefuls whittled down to two by Thursday.

With just two contenders so far having the support of the 20 Tory MPs needed to get them on to the ballot, the nine remaining hopefuls were scrambling to shore up support by Tuesday night before knockout votes begin on Wednesday.
