Kef fire risk 16/07/22: High

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8754 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0361 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1423 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9652 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

A big black dog allegedly attacked a cyclist in Vallianou Square, Argostoli, on Saturday. Said to have attacked others previously, but no action taken despite complaints. Owned by a local who lets it roam the streets instead of taking it for exercise. Last I heard it has been left with ARK by the owner's father.

Skala has lost two more pine trees, this time cut down by the municipality to enable road widening outside the primary school. All part of the new one-way system around Skala.

Wild bison return to UK for first time in thousands of years
The gentle giants released in Kent should transform a commercial pine forest into a vibrant natural woodland

Early on Monday morning, three gentle giants wandered out of a corral in the Kent countryside to become the first wild bison to roam in Britain for thousands of years.

The aim is for the animals’ natural behaviour to transform a dense commercial pine forest into a vibrant natural woodland. Their taste for bark will kill some trees and their bulk will open up trails, letting light spill on to the forest floor, while their love of rolling around in dust baths will create more open ground. All this should allow new plants, insects, lizards, birds and bats to thrive.

The Wilder Blean project, near Canterbury, is an experiment to see how well the bison can act as natural “ecosystem engineers” and restore wildlife. The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world.

Luton Airport flights suspended as heat affects runway

Flights have been suspended at London Luton Airport due to a "surface defect" on its runway, caused by high temperatures.

The airport said repairs were under way, but all flights had been affected.

The Met Office has issued a red extreme heat warning on Monday and Tuesday in much of England, with temperatures set to hit 41C (106F).

The airport said it hoped to "resume operations as soon as possible" and apologised to passengers.
