Kef fire risk 19/07/22: High

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8725 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0435 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1461 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9583 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Seems that Liz Truss' claims that the failing school she attended made her a right-wing Tory owe more to Boris Johnson's land of lies than her own reality:

I went to Liz Truss’s school – the children even bullied the teachers
While others may defend Roundhay, I too was a pupil there and the experience left me with mixed feelings

Article's behind a paywall, read it all on 12ft.io

Sounds pretty much like the school I attended: a few inspiring masters, a few who taught to the brightest in class and ignored the rest, some who were pretty decent but couldn't control a class of kids... that was fun!

Just had a look at the local forecast on weather.com, drops from 39C today to 24C tomorrow and 20C on Friday, then rises to28C Sunday before dropping to mid twenties next week.

If you think it's hot in the UK... Kef's like this for about two months or more.

Public sector wages: What pay rise will teachers, doctors, nurses and police get?

Unions are furious after hundreds of thousands of public sector workers were offered a pay increase which fails to keep up with the crippling cost of living.

Inflation is running at just over 9% and expected to rise further but most employed in the public sector will receive an increase well below that rate.

UK weather news – live: Heatwave fires consume parks and houses on brutal 40C day

Multiple fires are tearing through the south of England as the UK recorded a temperature above 40C for the first time in history, causing schools to shut down and leaving the transport system in disarray due to the extreme heat.

Major fires have broken out in London, Kent and Cornwall, as hundreds of firefighters desperately try to extinguish the blazes amid very dry and stifling conditions.

The UK’s new record breaking temperature, 40.3 C, was recorded today at Coningsby in Lincolnshire. It was a slight increase on the previous record of 40.2C set today at London Heathrow.

Around 100 firefighters battle major blaze in Essex village as homes and gardens are destroyed

Fifteen fire crews are battling a major blaze in Wennington, Essex that has destroyed at least two houses.

Aerial photos show homes totally gutted and engulfed by flames. Smoke can be seen billowing over the Thames.

As the heatwave brings record temperatures, the fire appears to have started on nearby shrubland before ripping through homes and gardens.
