Kef fire risk 21/07/22: High

One new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, one on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8773 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0505 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1399 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9519 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Guardian editor handed inflation-busting £150,000 pay rise
Katharine Viner's base salary increased by 42pc despite newspaper's criticism of 'profiteering bosses'

Katharine Viner’s salary rose by 42pc to £509,850 in the year to April after the newspaper's parent company, Guardian Media Group (GMG), hailed its best results since 2008.

With inflation now running far above wage increases for ordinary workers, the Guardian has repeatedly criticised what it views as excessive executive pay.

Last month the newspaper ran a story headlined "What cost of living crisis? Bumper executive bonuses make a comeback", and another warning that "Profiteering bosses, not workers, are pushing up inflation".

No mistake, it really is Liz Truss wanting to abolish the monarchy, albeit back in 1994:

And this is Mark Field, the MP she was shagging while married to her husband of four years, Hugh O'Leary:

Tourist seriously beaten in Zakynthos

A new incident of violence was reported on the Ionian island of Zakynthos, with a 23-year-old tourist admitted to the intensive care unit of the local hospital after being severely beaten by a group of young men at the port.

This latest incident of violence took place as a group of young people was getting off a day-trip “party” boat. According to sources, the victim received multiple blows to the head and was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. It was not clear what caused the attack.

Two men, compatriots of the injured man, were arrested for the incident by the Zakynthos port authority. The 23-year-old is to be transferred to another hospital in the country within the day.

Revealed: oil sector’s ‘staggering’ $3bn-a-day profits for last 50 years
Vast sums provide power to ‘buy every politician’ and delay action on climate crisis, says expert

The study has yet to be published in an academic journal but three experts at University College London, the London School of Economics and the thinktank Carbon Tracker confirmed the analysis as accurate, with one calling the total a “staggering number”.

Couple horrified as Qantas moves their baby on to separate flight
Couple says they spent more than 20 hours on hold with airline trying to sort mistake

An Australian couple has slammed flagship airline Qantas for booking their 13-month-old baby onto a different flight to them - then refusing to take responsibility for the mistake.

Stephanie and Andrew Braham had been travelling through Europe when they were notified by Qantas that their flight home had been rescheduled.

However, when they checked the new booking, they found their baby daughter had been booked on to a different departure than the couple themselves.

The Brahams say they were then forced to spend 20 hours on hold trying to speak to someone at Qantas, and even when they got through, the airline refused to take responsibility for the error.
