In a u-turn, Government experts have dismissed the supposed health benefits of wine and are set to rewrite the rule book on the nation's alcohol consumption, according to reports.

And a report by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice) advised middle-aged people there is "no safe level of alcohol consumption".

There’s almost no evidence that cancer screening saves lives, say researchers
A misunderstanding of mortality rates has led to false optimism.

To be clear, this op-ed does not suggest that you should cancel all your cancer screening tests this year. Instead, it cautions people to be realistic about these screenings because they do not appear to reduce general mortality rates. Most importantly, patients should talk with their doctors about whether such tests are absolutely necessary instead of undergoing them out of an unfounded belief that they "save lives."
