Thirty four new cases of coronavirus confirmed yesterday on Kefalonia, one on Ithaka.

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1627
1 USD = € 0.8482

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Boris Johnson denies aides warned him about garden party
Partygate scandal deepens with yet another claim of Downing Street gathering

Boris Johnson has denied claims that two aides warned him about a garden party in Downing Street during the first lockdown.

The prime minister has claimed he knew nothing about an email sent by his most senior official concerning the party on May 20, 2020. Martin Reynolds, the prime minister’s principal private secretary, invited 100 staff to attend the “socially distanced drinks”, asking people to “bring your own booze”.

The prime minister said last week that he attended the event for 25 minutes to thank staff but believed it to be a work event.

His account has been questioned as witnesses said there were tables filled with alcohol and that Johnson's partner, Carrie Symonds, was drinking with colleagues from outside No 10.

That's from The Times, another newspaper not normally associated as sympathetic to Labour.

The Independent adds:

Quote
Sunday Times columnist Dominic Lawson claimed that at least two people warned Mr Johnson that an email invite sent out to staff by his principal private secretary Martin Reynolds made it obvious that it was a party and that it “should be immediately cancelled”.

Mr Lawson added: “I was told that Johnson’s dismissive response was to say they were ‘overreacting’ and to praise Reynolds as ‘my loyal Labrador’.

I suspect his "loyal Labrador" will get thrown under a bus along with other lap dogs.

Two teens arrested in Manchester as part of probe into Texas synagogue attack

Two teenagers have been arrested in Manchester as part of the investigation into the Texas synagogue attack by a British hostage-taker.

Malik Faisal Akram, from Blackburn in Lancashire, was killed after taking four people hostage at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville on Saturday.

Akram flew to the US, bought a weapon and held people hostage in a 10-hour stand-off at the synagogue. He was shot dead after the FBI stormed the building.

All four hostages were unharmed.

Warning as thousands of drivers could see insurance policies cancelled this week
Thousands of motorists were no longer insured after midnight on January 14.

Thousands of drivers could see their insurance policies cancelled this week.

Martin Lewis is urging motorists to check their policies they may no longer be insured from January 14 - despite having paid for their policies.

The Money Saving expert says this is due to insurance firm MCE Insurance Company falling into administration last year meaning that over 100,000 policies are now void.
