Huge Hollywood movie productions such as “Knives Out 2,” which stars Greek-Filipino actor Dave Bautista and “James Bond” actor Daniel Craig, are set to film in Greece this year.
A movie about Giannis Antetokounmpo’s life, titled “Greek Freak,” has also just wrapped filming in the center of Athens.
Antonio Banderas and Kate Bosworth are just some of the world famous actors who are now filming in Thessaloniki, Greece for a star-studded movie with the working title “The Enforcer.”

Thankfully it’s fiction, a scene from the action adventure “The Expendables 4,” starring Jason Statham, Megan Fox, Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren and due to start shooting in Greece on October 30, according to producer Robert Van Norden. And the ship? It’s the work of a team of Thessaloniki prop builders and part of the outdoor set constructed by Millennium Media on a privately owned 8.3-hectare plot in the northern port city’s Thermi suburb.

Where Was The Lost Daughter Filmed?
‘The Lost Daughter’ was filmed in Spetses, an island and a municipality in the Greek administrative region of Attica. Located in the Mediterranean Sea, the island town proved to be the perfect filming site as the team was looking for a scenic but safe place that could host the production of the movie since the COVID-19 pandemic was still at its peak. The filming crew utilized several locations on the island, such as the Anargyrios and Korgialenios School of Spetses (AKSS) and the Zogeria Restaurant.

Born in 1830 in Argostoli, following the impoverishment of his family after death of his father, Marinos Koryialenios prematurely curtailed his education and worked for several English merchants in Greece. He later moved to London where he rose to become vice-director of a merchant bank. Subsequently he established a stockbroking company where he made his fortune. Back in 1984 Tim Severin's Argo, a replica of a Greek Bronze-age boat, was built by Vassili Delimitros in his boatyard in the Old Harbour area of Spetses. Severin sailed the boat to Colchis in Soviet Georgia to prove the Jason and the Argonauts myth had some basis in fact. It seems that in that area sheep fleeces were used to pan for gold in rivers - the tiny nuggets were caught in the wool.
I worked and lived on Spetses back in 1999 and the school was semi derelict. Happily, it's been restored and is now a popular conference centre (https://akss.gr/main/en/) and base for summer schools. In summer this island was bustling, mostly with Athenians as the nearest airport is in Athens, a four hour coach and ferry ride away across the Corinth Canal. In winter it was very quite and, back in the fifties must have been a very different place even during the summer, almost isolated.

The film centres on the CIA being blackmailed for ransom payments by a criminal gang who assasinate foreign journalists and blame the US agency. As the world unites against the CIA, they attempt to lure back one of their talented ex-operatives now living as a bricklayer (Eckhart) to unravel the truth.

ITV unveils new reality game show set in Greece
ITV has announced a new reality game show called Loaded In Paradise.
The broadcaster has said the action-packed series will see party-loving pairs island-hop across the Aegean Islands in Greece in a race to take control of and spend 50,000 euros.
The reality series will start with five pairs and a gold card topped up with money, but only one couple can be in control at any time, ITV has said.

Accepting I may not have been ready for Daniel Craig not to be James Bond, nor ready for his pathetically poor accent, I would best describe this (for whilst I was awake) as Mamma Mia without a soundtrack.

I gather there's a suggestion in the film that Craig's character, Benoit Blanc, is gay. Maybe the next Bond will be, times change:

“Maestro” aka “Maestro in Blue” is the first ever exclusive worldwide distribution deal for a Greek scripted television series on the streaming platform Netflix and will launch worldwide on Friday, March 17th, 2023.
The television series is set in Greece on the island of Paxos. It follows a musician named Orestis, played by Papakaliatis, who travels to the small Greek island during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to set up a music festival from scratch.
Confronted with the small society of the island, he finds himself involved in a passionate love story that acts as the catalyst for the manifestation of all the social problems that plague an entire group of people. Reese Witherspoon is the executive producer of this series about a fictional band in the 70s
Greek beaches also feature in the series. The cast travelled to Athens and the island of Hydra to film key sequences.
Daisy heads to the car-free isle that first attracted a bohemian cohort, including Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell, in the 60s.
Hydra offers up sandy beaches, the harbour of Hydra Town that has a glut of small boats and is overlooked by a hill covered in pastel-coloured homes, and a collection of churches and monasteries.
Those tempted on a trip to Greece by these scenes could combine the capital and the island. Ferries run between the port of Piraeus in Athens run to Hydra year-round.
Daisy Jones and The Six is streaming on Prime Video from Friday 3 March.

A surprising Greek crime drama series has cracked the Netflix top 10
Usually, the Top-10 list on Netflix is just a roundup of its newest big Netflix originals, sometimes with the odd classic movie that's just been added to the service in there for good measure. However, that's not the case right now.
In the US, the Netflix Top 10 list of TV shows has a surprise entry at number 10: Maestro in Blue.
Why's this surprising? Firstly, it's the only entry in the Top 10 that's not a Netflix Original. All of the other shows are ones created for Netflix.
Secondly, it's the first-ever Greek series to hit Netflix (not including shows based on, or focusing on, Ancient Greek stories).
In the UK, Maestro in Blue isn't on the list, though it is available on the service.

The foreign TV series that have been booked for filming in Athens
From 2020 until today, more than a hundred international and domestic productions have chosen the Greek capital for their filming.
Three international television series have already been booked for the first half of 2024, while there are also films in the works whose directors and producers are considering choosing Athens.
Speaking to Proto Thema, the director of the Athens Film Office, Mr. Stathis Kalogeropoulos, explained that so far, the series “House of David”, “Girl from Oslo” and a French series called “Kabul” have filmed in the capital.

Over 1 million euros to support 13 film producers
Deputy Minister of Culture, in charge of Contemporary Culture issues, Christos Dimas, told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA): "Using resources from the Recovery and Resilience Fund, we are supporting thirteen domestic as well as international film productions with the total amount of 1,262,000 euros, which was approved on February 13. Our goal is both to strengthen domestic film producers and to attract producers from abroad, as well as to promote modern Greek culture worldwide."
