Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9135 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1095 USD
£1 GBP = 1.0947 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9013 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

LastPass suffers another data breach, says customer data was stolen

LastPass has not disclosed further details about the breach. It is still investigating the scope of the incident to determine what user data was accessed.

Security incidents like these are the reason why some people prefer to use offline password managers like KeePass, because the only person who has access to your vault is you.

Smart appliances could stop working after two years, says Which?

Smart appliances could stop working properly after just two years because manufacturers are failing to provide tech updates, according to Which?.

Research by the consumer champion found products like expensive dishwashers, TVs, and washing machines - which might be expected to last more than a decade - are "being abandoned" by brands.

A lack of software support from firms means devices do not get updated.

The older they get, the risk of online hacking also increases, Which? says.

Archaeologists Believe They Found The Temple Of Poseidon In Greece

The area where the remains were found is prone to tsunamis which would make sense because Poseidon is the god of tsunamis.

According to a report by Phys on Wednesday, archaeologists discovered remains of what they believe was the temple of Poseidon near Samikon, Greece.

One-person companies can now be set up online in 5 minutes, says minister

One-person companies can now be established online in five minutes via the gov.gr portal, Digital Governance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis announced on Friday.

In a speech to present the operation of the National Policy for Administrative Procedures, the minister pointed out that 50,000 one-person businesses were founded in 2022 and that each one required their founder to make more than five visits to various public offices and to stand in line to obtain specific certificates.

“These five visits have now become five minutes and the visit is now digital via gov.gr,” he said.

The minister noted that gov.gr now offers more than 1,500 services and recorded 1.2 billion digital transactions last year, up from 8.8 million in 2018.

Lesvos court rejects charges against aid workers

A court on the island of Lesvos on Friday rejected charges against a group of aid workers and volunteers who participated in migrant rescue operations, ruling on procedural grounds to return the case to the prosecution for refiling.

The case, in which 24 people – 17 foreigners and seven Greeks – were charged over their work with migrants newly arriving on Lesvos, has drawn widespread criticism from human rights organizations. The defendants argue they were doing nothing more than assisting people whose lives were at risk.

Ageing reversed in mice in groundbreaking study

Scientists have managed to reverse the process of ageing in mice, raising questions over whether the same could one day be done for humans.

Researchers at Harvard Medical School also found a way to speed up the biological process, suggesting it can be driven “forwards and backwards at will”.

The key to this, scientists found, is manipulating the rodents’ epigenomes – which function as an operating system by instructing cells how to interpret and use genetic material.

It is easier to tweak the molecules that drive the body’s epigenetic process than to reverse DNA mutations, say researchers, opening up a raft of possibilities in how ageing could one day be treated.

The findings, published on Thursday in the scientific journal, Cell, challenge the idea that ageing is the result of genetic mutations that break down our DNA and lead to deterioration.

David Sinclair, a professor of genetics in the Blavatnik Institute at Harvard Medical School... told CNN: “We believe it’s a loss of information — a loss in the cell’s ability to read its original DNA so it forgets how to function — in much the same way an old computer may develop corrupted software. I call it the information theory of ageing.”

Record levels of NHS staff resign as nurses say they are ‘broken’

Nurses have said they are “truly broken” as 42,400 staff voluntarily quit their NHS jobs in quarter two of last year – higher than any quarter over the last decade.

Analysis showed 7,200 staff members gave “work-life balance” as the reason for resigning.

According to the latest figures, first reported by the Health Service Journal, 2,161 staff members left their jobs due to a “better reward package” – this was also the highest recorded to date.

Last year The Independent revealed internal NHS estimates showing the government was set to miss its target to have 50,000 more nurses working in the NHS by 2023-24, due to the number expected to leave their jobs in the next year.
