Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9028 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1140 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1077 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8977 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Hm, "Visit Greece" has more appeal than "Visit Rwanda" which is on Arsenal shirts.

Lone Wolf Spotted Swimming in the Sea Off Greece

A lone wolf was spotted by surprised fishermen swimming in the Aegean Sea off Magnesia, located in Central Greece.

The men on the fishing boat were caught by surprise to see the wolf at such a great distance from the shores.

Wolves have swimming skills much like dogs. They can swim up to eight miles and are comfortable even in icy water.

Power companies announce lower tariffs for February

The country’s power suppliers have announced significantly reduced electricity tariffs for February, with Public Power Corporation (PPC) saying that its rate is down 57-64% compared to January.

The final consumer price depends on the amount of the electricity consumption subsidy announced every month by the Ministry of Environment and Energy.

Which? found that those booking a summer 2023 package holiday between November 1, 2022, and January 3 of this year would have paid 19 per cent more on average than last year.

When Which? compared the average prices for a week's holiday in six popular destinations - Spain, Greece, Portugal, Italy, Turkey and Cyprus - it found Greece had seen the steepest rises, followed by Italy.

A seven-night break in Greece costs on average 30 per cent more than in 2022, with an average price tag of £867 per person for summer 2023.

British prisoner ‘breaks world record’ for longest time in solitary confinement
Robert Maudsley is thought to have been in continuous isolation since 1978

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “There is no such thing as solitary confinement in our prison system. Some prisoners will be segregated if they pose a risk to others but this is reviewed regularly.

“Like other prisoners they are allowed time in the open air everyday, visits from relatives, phone calls, access to legal advice and medical care.”

Have You Seen The ‘Green Comet’ Yet? The Inconvenient Truth Behind The Headlines

Go outside on a clear night this week and look north and—if you believe what you read on some websites—you’ll see a bright green comet shooting across the sky. In reality, you will not see anything of the sort. There’s been a lot of hype and wild claims aired online about comet C/2022 E3, but the truth about actually seeing this visitor from the edge of the solar system is rather inconvenient.

Stray animals poisoned in Ilia

The local community of Vartholomio, Ilia in southern Greece is reeling in horror and disgust at the abominable images posted online of dead dogs and cats that ingested poison placed by an unknown perpetrator.

So far, four dogs and eight cats have been reported dead, with the Municipality of Pinios’ Welfare Association for the Protection and Care of Stray Animals managing to rescue two small dogs that had swallowed the poison at the last minute.

Horrified locals are calling for the immediate identification and exemplary punishment of the person responsible for the criminal act.

An investigation has been launched by local police to identify the perpetrator.

MI5 refused to investigate ‘Russian spy’s’ links to Tories, says whistleblower

MI5 repeatedly refused to investigate evidence that an alleged Russian spy was attempting to cultivate influence with senior Conservative politicians and channel illegal Russian funds into the party, a Tory member has alleged in a new complaint lodged with the investigatory powers tribunal (IPT).

Sergei Cristo, a Conservative party activist and a former journalist with the BBC World Service, has lodged a complaint with the investigatory powers tribunal, filing the case after corresponding with the chair of parliament’s intelligence and security committee, Conservative MP Julian Lewis, who recommended he take the information to the authorities.

The committee’s Russia report claimed in 2020 that the security services had turned a blind eye to “credible evidence” of Russian interference and Cristo’s allegations offer potentially explosive new evidence that confirms its findings.
