Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9023 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1151 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1083 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8968 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mass_shootings_in_the_United_States_in_2022#Statistics

Total to date this year (23/01/23): 59 killed, 151 injured: gunviolencearchive.org

Seems there's no broadly accepted definition of "mass shooting", see Wikipedia: Definitions.

Greece before the start of the hippy era

It was June 1965 when we drove away from the spectacular Amalfi Coast. My friend and I were eager to get to Greece...

Going back, I remember buying the Athens News every week - when i could find a copy - and a couple of places with 'hole in the ground' toilets. I think one was the taverna at Zogeria beach on Spetses, t'other was a taverna out in the sticks somewhere between Corfu and Levkas. Hey ho.

Corfu is becoming an inhospitable place for its own people to live, a showpiece not a living organism

Each year, around the end of October, we reclaim the streets. This is not a political gesture. It does not require an organised march, or banners or cheer-leaders. Or police. We simply walk around the town – its beautiful arcaded streets and narrow lanes, from which we have been banished since early spring by the hordes of tourists who wander with aimless curiosity.

Fighter jets scrambled after bomb threat on Ryanair flight to Greece Access to the comments

Fighter jets were scrambled on Sunday following reports of a bomb on a Ryanair flight to Greece.

Two Greek F-16s escorted a Ryanair plane from Katowice in Poland as a precaution after a bomb threat was reported on the flight, according to the Greek Defence Ministry.

The aircraft, with more than 190 people on board, landed safely at 5:40 p.m. local time in Athens International Airport.

Firefighters and police surrounded the aircraft soon after it landed at a remote part of the airport, and it was inspected by the bomb squad, the Greek news agency ANA said.

Flight operated by a Polish subsidiary of Ryanair, Buzz Air. As it neared Athens it was diverted over the sea as a safety precaution. No bomb found.

Couple devastated after losing out on £182m EuroMillions jackpot due to ‘payment failure’

A young couple who thought they won a £182m jackpot in the EuroMillions were left heartbroken after they found out the payment for their ticket did not go through.

Rachel Kennedy and her boyfriend Liam McCrogan, from Hertfordshire, were told via text that they had won the £182 million jackpot in February 2021.

But Ms Kennedy, who was 19 at the time, did not have enough funds in her account to pay for the £2.50 ticket.

So despite having the numbers, she could not claim her prize.

Today, Apple also patched dozens of other security flaws in its Safari web browser and its latest macOS, iOS, and watchOS versions.
