100 years of Greek tourism

--- Quote ---The video celebrates the 100th anniversary of officially-organized tourism in Greece. Back in 1914, respected Greek statesman Eleftherios Venizelos founded the first national service to oversee Greek tourism. That same year, 10,000 tourists visited the country, and the numbers just kept on growing from there.

It was better before Greece joined the Euro ;)

Nice vid though, even if the reality is a bit different! (Of course, we know it is!!)

Does anyone recognise that remarkable looking white monastery near the beginning?

It was certainly cheaper before Greece joined the Euro but Greece was an impoverished and backward country.  Now it is just.... impoverished.

Hmm, a remarkable looking white monastery (on a mountain side, somewhere in Greece)... well, that narrows it down a bit.

Thought it might be the Agios Nikolaos Sintaz Monastery near Leonidion, but looking at the pics I'm not sure it is: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5
