We read all of this, yesterday we flew back to Kef through Manchester airport, you have to show all electronic devices,ie laptops netbooks clever phones etc. they go onto a tray and go through the scanner, if you have a fancy poser type of watch, the same applies. We were not asked to power up any devices. Our phones, quaint types that simply talk to people or text people that live on earth, were left in pockets. All types of phones that Pi$$ people off in a Taverna had to be put in a tray.
In short the checkin only took 20 minutes, no probs, last month Manchester checkin took 2 hours!
in other words a far better experience.

This is just another bulls*** piece of news designed to make the below average Joe scared shitless about flying because the tanned chap sitting next to him has got a phone that just bleeped it was out of battery!

We were told last year that this was common practice in the USA since 9/11.  If you take a piece of electronic equipment on a plane they MAY ask you to turn it on, if it doesn't, they MAY confiscate it!

Watch out, next will be the hundred quid levy on all passengers for 'Homeland Security Tax'!

Remember people, just because no one is watching you, it doesn't mean you can't be paranoid!

I frequently put laptop and tablet in hold luggage - no mention anywhere what'll happen if they are seen on a luggage scan. Guesses?

Yes, I was wondering about that, or will that be the next requirement, that all electronic equipment should be in hand luggage..? Whatever, I'm all for making flights as safe and secure as is possible.
