Sarantaporo is a village located far up in the mountains of Central Greece, closer to Albania and Macedonia than to Athens. Several years ago, some of the residents had the idea to make a website about the area for the residents of Sarantaporo and nearby villages. The aim of the website was to share knowledge about their fragmented mountain communities. However, when the site went live, the creators realized a slight flaw in their plan -- many people didn't have Internet access.

Being so remote, the major telecom companies never extended internet access that far into the region. The locals, however, created their own access to the internet via a wireless mesh network.

Scale of diabetes timebomb laid bare with one in five retirees suffering from the condition
New figures show a 65 per cent rise in diabetes diagnoses in just a decade, as experts warn that the number of sufferers has now topped 4 million - and will reach 5 million in a decade

One in five retirees are suffering from diabetes as new figures reveal the scale of the middle-age time bomb facing Britain.

Spiralling obesity rates have fuelled a 65 per cent rise in diagnoses in a decade, with more than 4 million people now living with the condition, UK data shows.

Charities said the NHS will become “crippled” by the burden of the condition without urgent action to make “profound” changes to today’s lifestyles.

Experts called for measures to bring down the price of healthy foods, introduce clearer food labelling and bring an end to “couch potato” habits.

Seems some Skala residents are hearing groans and bumps in the night. Not being attributed to  ghosts and ghouls, rather to oil exploration vessels between Kef - Patras

Goat and tiger's unlikely friendship

It is the story of an animal friendship that was never meant to be.

A month ago, at a safari park in the far east of Russia, a goat was released into a tiger's enclosure as a live prey.

Things haven't turned out as might have been expected for Timur and Amur.

Sonic youth: vaginal speaker lets you play tunes to foetuses

Babypod, a speaker inserted into the vagina, launches with ‘first concert for foetuses’ as 2009 Eurovision song contest contender sings to pregnant women

The pale pink device, which costs 150 euros (£110), is controlled by a phone app but does not use Bluetooth. Parents-to-be can share their babies’ listening experience using split headphones which hang out of the vagina.

Superb. Soothe baby with music, whilst frying it's brain with WiFi.

I expect Sweet's 1972 song "Little Willy" to be a very firm favourite...  It'll be right up there.
