Kef fire risk 05/06/22: Medium

Eight new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, three on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8775 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.1013 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1396 €UR
$1 USD = 0.908 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

2,100-Year-Old Skeleton of Greek Woman Found Lying on Bronze 'Mermaid Bed'

Archaeologists have unearthed the ancient burial of a woman lying on a bronze bed near the city of Kozani in northern Greece. It dates to the first century BCE.

Depictions of mermaids decorate the posts of the bed. The bed also displays an image of a bird holding a snake in its mouth, a symbol of the ancient Greek god Apollo.

The woman's head was covered with gold laurel leaves that likely were part of a wreath, Areti Chondrogianni-Metoki, director of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Kozani, told Live Science in an email.

The wooden portions of the bed have decomposed.

Gold threads, possibly from embroidery, were found on the woman's hands, Chondrogianni-Metoki said.

Additionally, four clay pots and a glass vessel were buried alongside the remains. No other people were buried with her.

Looks as though Captain Makis, Oliver Reed look-alike, is selling Kefalonia's famous Glass Bottom Boat:

An egg a day keeps the doctor away by boosting ‘good cholesterol’
Daily consumption can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease or stroke

Eating an egg every day can boost “good cholesterol”, a study has found.

It leads to more “good” HDL, or high-density lipoprotein, cholesterol which strips the “bad” low-density lipoprotein (LDL) away, epidemiologists at Peking University found....

Unconfirmed: a press release allegedly issued by ARK/DORIS:

Quote
PRESS RELEASE

With regard to all these falsehoods spread by the known self-identified.

Unique, special, and distinguished saviors of stray animals on our island since the beginning and the first appearance of our island in the historical data and the imprinting of Kefalonia on the world maps... NO , the ARC has not been closed ... It is in the same place that for so many years it has been active and welcomes with joy its friends and supporters as always... We cannot receive new animals, because of the well-known hasty decision of Mr. Sotirios Kouris, who had never visited the shelter, nor has this been done so far.

We continue our work and of course we run the adoption program since our goal is, in cooperation with the competent authorities, to decongest the existing structure and welcome the new, modern and legal, which is on the way!!!! .. therefore, and we operate and our friends continue to visit us, and our volunteer program takes place normally, and adoptions are ongoing and your donations are welcome, and we will be PRESENT, when the brand new structure is delivered by our Municipality!!!!!

We send our sympathy to the well-known nihilistic self-appointed protectors-opponents, who for years now have been chasing us .. they have become quaint anymore.. .. we leave them in their own, lonely, reality.... it is not right, after all, to upset the sufferers.

From the Board of Directors of DORIS ARK
Argostoli 6/05/2022
